Of these two wars:
The War on Terror?
The War of the Races?
You may not think much of either, but that's all you have to pick from in this thread. Maybe I'm just being a pessimistic, but these people in the media who are whipping up all this anger may be starting something we will never recover from (as if we don't already have enough problems).
I really did feel like the one consolation prize of electing Obama was that race relations would finally start to get better... that we could finally realize that our skin is like the cover of a book, it should be the least interesting part. But it's not looking good now is it? I'm seeing a perfect storm develop made up of a permanently weak economy and a divided country. I really haven't been concerned about the racial divide until this trial... I'd accepted the fact that you can't eliminate the hate in some people's hearts. Now I'm watching these people in the media creating straw men like rabbits and asking their audiences to ramp up the hate... maybe not directly, but they ARE fueling a race fire and giving themselves more power in the process.
The terrorists will hit us again and will leave more scars on our soil, but the battle between different colored Americans, in he my opinion, will quicken our fall the fastest. And, with all the similarities we have with the fall of Rome, we better find a way to come together.
I guess we just need another good terrorist attack.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
Unfortunately the election of Obama did not further the cause of good race relations, if anything it has made the divide between the races worse. Once elected, those who professed to not be racist, or bigoted drew the line at having a man of color be President. I find that both sad and predictable. What makes me angry is realizing that for all the progress we "think" we have made in equality for the varying races we have in this country....it appears it was all on the surface.....racism runs deep and incidents like the death of Trayvon Martin bring it to the surface.
If anything brings this country down, it will be dissent from within, this is a nation of many races, many ethnicities, many differing religious and spiritual beliefs, and many political allegiances....there was a time that we celebrated our differences....not so any more.
I don't fear the terrorists nearly as much as I fear the hatred I see expressed within this country every day.
This country used to be known as a melting pot. Assimilation was a way to achieve. Neither war scares me. And I think all the talk of the war on race is stupid. Young black males are more likely to die at the hands of other black males rather than some pudgy Peruvian watch captain.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
JMO....racial discrimination has ALWAYS been present,it is just insidious and subliminal now, since
it is NO longer fashionable to be OPEN about it.
The problem with boards such as this....there is NO diversity so you (collectively) can NOT get
an accurate understanding of what it is like to be of color. I have posted before on PC that
the forums are primarily "white bread" perspective and the life experiences are NOT similar.
For instances, just now on the MSM they are speaking of "the talk"......most WHITE individuals
had/have no understanding of that concept.....BUT a black would understand IMMEDIATELY.
Our society (America) is STILL racists,it just has gone "on the down low".....JMO....a transformation of society is in progress.....we are only at the HALF WAY mark of that transformation....strife is ALWAYS the first step in changing a paradigm....and individuals fear/loathe change....JMO

I'm sorry archer, but the highlighted sentence doesn't help. I've never seen the evidence for that other than the word of race baters. If I think Obama's policies are bad, that has NOTHING to do with his skin color... and assuming otherwise is NOT founded in fact.
Are there people that don't like Obama merely because of his color? YES. Just like there are people who can't stand white people because of their color. But you and I don't really know how many of these racists exist, or what party has the most of them... but you have the right to speculate I suppose.
My main concern is that people like Sharpton and Van Jones will be able to gain power and legitimacy off the fears they create.... the worse relations get, the stronger they become (it's good business for them). These kind of people think they are doing the good work of MLK, when in reality, they are destroying King's dream.

Have to agree with Rick, if there are still racists out there, they are very small in number and have very limited influence. Crips and Bloods have killed a lot more African Americans than KKK or White Aryan Resistance.

LOL, you and Rick are hopeless. Since you both ONLY exist on this web site your POV is hopelessly "white bread". Therefore neither of you can POSSIBLY have a clue. I will bet you are both bitter and cling to guns and God.
This may be a little off track, but you won't hear Obama making a statement or Hollywood tweeting about it... 17 yr old Black killing a baby white-Hispanic for no good reason.
Yeah, I live in a white bread world with African American nieces and nephews & "white" Hispanic friends.
Over half the people I work with are African-American, Hispanic, and/or Asian.
And I have Jewish heritage.

Rick, I think you and Fred have your heads firmly planted in the sand. homeagain is right, our society really is as racist as it ever was, only now, since it is politically incorrect to appear to be racist, it's harder to recognize. I hear from those on the right all the time that they don't dislike Obama because he is black.....they just don't like his policies.......right......Obama was attacked from the moment he was sworn in as president, we have seen some of the signs that the tea party have used in the past to depict the President, we have read the veiled attacks on his being "different" and not being a real American.....
Until you have lived as a black man/woman you will never see what they see in those of us who are white.......we cannot understand the hostility they feel more often than they should coming from those who think they are different, I would love to think that this country is moving forward in race relations, not just with African Americans but with Hispanics and other ethnicities.......but I truly believe we are not.......at least not in a very large segment of our white society.
Oh, and Fred....I do so love your "some of my family and best friends are black" comment......what is sad is that we even need statements like that today to show how un racist we are.......
