This is a fact: The American Military Industrial Complex spends roughly 20-30% of its budget on lobbyists to make SURE that the orders that are given by the DoD include as much hardware, outsourced security, and PROFITS as possible. This includes obscene amounts of money to Senators, and Congressmen (both Dem & Rep) to ensure that the money keeps getting voted for, to keep up the profits. That's why it took YEARS for the program to force the DoD to take mandatory "second engines" and spend BILLIONS the DoD did NOT WANT on the F-35 Second Engine Program... And it was killed in the HOUSE over the strenuous objections of the one politician who stood to gain the most from it: John Boehner.

Spare me your "they're only following orders" crap for the Military Industrial Complex.

There is a SOBERING essence to this moment/event....it REMINDS us that life is fragile and that
SECURITY is non-existent.....we ALL bleed red blood, we ALL inhale oxygen to survive, we ALL
have children, love ones that we embrace at the end of the day (when we are alive).....the
snap shot images....FROZEN IN TIME....of a human being CHOOSING to leap into space, rather
than face a fiery, UNIMAGINABLE death is BOTH POTENT and PITIFUL......THAT is the reason
for the REMEMBRANCE........THIS is a portion of HISTORY,THIS is what happened when we
ASSUMED we were removed from the misery of the rest of the globe.....NOTE this well, because
it is NOT over.....JMO

LJ: I am not going to argue your point of the vulgar amounts of monies that Congress and politicos ask to be spent and fight to be spent on un-needed programs and parts.

I am going to ask if you ever spent time serving in the military? I have...I believe I know what I'm speaking about. Military orders are not "crap"...maybe the people giving them are, maybe the reason for them to be given is...but the orders themselves are not. Again, there is a HUGE difference between Congress and politicians and the men and women in uniform serving the country faithfully.

Computer.....I ask this in EARNEST and with immense RESPECT.......when you (collectively) have
completed the task, given your COMPLETE and total all, WHAT has the government given you
in return???? From my view.....when you have GIVEN OVER your body (read maimed and dis
figured) and GIVEN OVER your mind, soul (read MENTALLY fubared coming back into society_)has
the government MADE IT RIGHT???? (DISCLAIMER HERE.....never been in the military,NEVER
had to endure the aftermath of someone who has seen combat/maimed bodies)....I just do
a huge amount of reading about the subject and from what I read/understand the answer to
this question is this......GOVERNMENT PARTICIPATION IN MAKING PEOPLE WHOLE AGAIN......
is next to non-existent......I will gladly retract this statement IF it is incorrect.....there is a
DISCONNECT.....create a "killing machine" and then DUMP the individual when the job is done.JMO

Homeagain interesting view of the military and what they do to you. Would other veterans like to speak on this? Does the DOD eat you up and spit you out? Or do they make you a better person and give you opportunities and experiences you are grateful for? Or a little bit of both? And besides a ROTC class I have no military experience either.

The theater of "war" is VASTLY different today than it was in Kennedy's presidency......drones,
IED's and deployment after deployment AFTER deployment.....the human mind/body is NOT equipped to deal with THAT kind of stress......hence the CONTINUING increase of suicide, the
SEVERE and massive damage done to the body from IED's and the rampant rate of drug use.....
military families have been asked to give MORE,again and again and again, till the family unit
breaks and divorce is the result......I do NOT see the "follow up" care that is required to make
these families WHOLE again.....they are on their own and they CAN'T do it alone.....JMO

I lived thru Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon era......lessons from Vietnam were HARD,but apparently, NOT
well learned.....THERE IS A DISCONNECT.......JMO

Yeah, and there are actually normally functioning people walking around thinking that Iraq was a good idea...In the face of a Pikes Peak sized mountain of evidence to the contrary..
