FOR DISCUSSION: Mark Levin asked a prescient question tonight on his show:
Why do we equip and train our military to use our weaponry, yet only trust them with it in some other place than their base?
What is the danger in having military men (*& women) armed on a base? If you think your men/*women are dangerous, why would you train them on the best weaponry there is?
That's a good question and it would be good to hear your thoughts on this.
I am just glad folks can still get guns so this was not some kind of bombing with more dead. The guy was clearly not well in his head and without a simple tool like a gun he could have become far more creative and harmful with something more complex - like OK.
I feel bad for those that are suffering right now, I just see how people like this could do much worse.
If he was in any service, there is a certain amount of blame that should fall to the person(s) that qualified him to get in and also the group that came up with that qualification protocol. Both processes clearly have a hole. Both groups literally have the assignment of making sure this does not happen. This same qualification process fails us on military suicides and military spouse abuse too. Luckily the killings of others are rare, but the killings of self and abuse are reported to be rampant.
I think the debate surrounding this should focus on those that qualify soldiers and those that come up with that system, if in fact we used our tax money to train this guy to commit this massacre.
