No More World Wide Web?

Per Yahoo, Brazil, tired of NSA spying, is looking to make their internet a national, not international proposistion. I could see where totalitarian countries might like to go this way too.
Don't want democratic ideas inspiring/polluting their citizen/subjects?

Think this is a good idea? I could see that it might really limit education/information in some nations.

Interesting and limiting. But would it really keep the NSA from spying?

Only if the country also made it impossible to make phone calls beyond their borders... and definitely not to the US. Not sure the NSA is capable of tapping foriegn countries without a US connection, but I'm sure their working on it... would be handy in places like Iran.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Duh... if push comes to shove... NSA will simply ensconce a small field office in Brazil. Problem solved.

NSA probably already has a presence in multiple Brazilian embassies and consulates.
Feel good decision making?

I don't think this matters that much.

The world was not bad off before when information was not spread everywhere all the time.

The free world does not need the WWW to stay free. In fact the WWW has led to the opposite.

The WWW brought you 9-11 which encouraged your leaders to place you are progressive lock down.

Plus, aren't they doing this to avoid our spying. And yes if they do it and I was an evil dictator, I would use the same tool to limit the communication of my people, but I would not be naive enough to think it would keep me in power.

The WWW also does not diversify, it is a tool to make everyone the same. In order to keep culture and diversity, this is one of things a country could do. That is why 9-11 happened, those in the mid east thought we were trying to make them the same with our guns and computers and porn.

This action or such actions may help to avoid conflict and war.

The world wide web homogenized us? Maybe, but for anyone who has unusual interests, it has been a godsend to easily be able to find people with the same interests and getting information about your interest.
I collect a specific handgun made before World War I and I have talked to fellow collectors and experts around the world. Imagine trying to do this on phone or the mail? And how would you find them?
So while you think it has made everyone the same, I think it lets us explore and research much more easily.

Oh yeah the WWW has homogenized us and it will finish the job.

Your guns and communication are great, that is the good part about the WWW, communication.

Despite this communication leads to people needing to find a way to work together. The more we all jump in the same pool, the more we all have to follow the rules of that pool, vs. the differing rules of our local pools (or no rules at all).

So it does let us explore and the more you discover, the more we will all feel we need a common sense of right and wrong.

Next thing we will come up with something very odd, but accept it widely, that if there are 100 people and 51 of them think one thing...it becomes the standard or rule for all 100. The more people interact, the more we will need to have one set of right or wrong or settle the difference with battles.

You know this. The good of you talking about your guns or parents talking about vaccines, is that sooner or later you all must agree or there will be an issue.

This is the opposite of fences make good neighbors Fred. The WWW is the opposite of a fence. I recognize not all fences are good, but the open range concept did not last either....in the end, the fence will go back up, just like all over CO. Enjoy the open range whilst you have it.
