Yes, we know well your obsession with LJ.......And your inability to recognize the attacks and insults directed at liberals, also on a daily basis....but that has little to do with the pigeon holing of generation Yers in this article.

I got news for you Blazing Bob...Thanks to George Bush Jr. and the 40 year republican war on workers wages ...A very small percentage of kids are upwardly moble. The economy sucks, nobody 20-40 has expendable income and with morons like you around its probably just gonna get worse.. I know you got the word "yuppie" from FOX News or from one of your other Rightwingnut Facist websites, but it doesn't apply nowadays..

How many years does Obama need to be in office before he is held accountable for the economy his economic policies have created (including Obamacare)?

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

YES, the economy sucks,YES the age group we are speaking of is suffering.....BUT, so is everyone else......the "Lehman" moment and the fubar that ensued is a travesty and you
know and I know that GREAT many "insiders" got filthy rich off of derivatives and the "funny
money" that was floating thru the economy.....UNTIL the "game" ended......here's the problem
with the younger generation.....smart phones, texting,X-boxes,and THE ENTIRE spectrum of
electronic equipment has "softened" the work ethic and HARD work, both mental and physical
have become a thing of the past.

I recently hired a "friends" 23 year old to do some yard work.....he is STILL living with his
parents, has NO job (because the jobs that are READILY available to him are beneath him)
he goes to sleep VERY late in the am and sleeps till 11 or noon......his WORK ETHIC is
so poorly defined that I was disgusted and deeply discouraged, because his parents are
HARD WORKERS and nothing was given to them.....I could NOT believe the poor performance/
lack of follow thru and in general "crap job" in did for me.......I ended up doing a portion of the
work because I was NOT going to pay him TEN DOLLARS an hour to screw around......it was
the last time I hired him, even tho I have work that still needs done......I admit, my exposure
to that age group is limited, BUT the exposure I have had reflects POORLY on that generation
(including my own BIL's 20 something daughter, who doesn't drive and depends upon her mom
to take her to work......(where her mom has a second job to support the family)JMO

It does not take articles to see that the baby boomers were far more focused on their careers and money than their children or freedom.

This group of poor parents pioneered the child ruining practice of scheduling their time.

Bottom line is that most parents want to tell their kids how great they are and it likely would have been better to hit them in stead. Most kids are not that great, just look at the adults out there, most of them are just followers, punching the clock. The clock they punched vs. paying attention to their kids. They believe money is more important than time.

Not all, but many are obsessed with what money and education can do for their kids in place of what they can do by spending time with them or leaving them be with a pile of sticks to play with. I am sure you have read the other studies and articles that show how more stimulation (excessive organized activities, complex new toys) dumbs a kid down. Leaving them to their own devices makes diverse thinking smarter kids. The generation of kids that are wisked to school, then dance, then soccer then home to do homework and go to bed have literally been abused into stupidity and simplicity by this process meant to better them.

As one who employs and interacts with many gen Y's as they now have to go into the job market, this article is pretty on spot.

The part where traditionally hard work got you to success and how gen Y thinks success comes simply from the world realizing how great you are (like mom and dad lied to you 10,000 times), is spot on. The part where they were always told how they were doing great so they are closed minded to new ideas, because their or the existing on is adequate. You can see this in the adults who demand all kids of local regulation on other people homes and lifestyles. Big groups of people that are very closed minded. Gen Y is gen two of this very obnoxious group. When they get into positions of power over the next few years, you will see how many few options people have in life and how there will be less and less acceptable ways to be. An extreme version of this would be average folks living in the USSR worried about a revolution because they don't know who will grow the food if the govt stops....that is the kind of kids we are raising these days - good soldiers and compliant workers who think working for someone else is success and will likely not be happy on average because they are so much less than their parents told them they would be. Fewer people from this generation will be business owners, bosses etc. than ever before in history, mostly thanks to their parents raising them to be so and then creating an govt that makes sure they are just worker bees, if they are lucky.

Really this is a result of most parents raising their kids like I post....simply trying too hard and having it backfire. Luckily I am just posting on a silly message board, they were raising kids.

THANK YOU for this validation.....I am retired and do NOT have to contend with this on an 8-10 hour basis......the WSJ ran the article several years ago and it apparently has NOT improved.

So whoever posted this must think that govts raise kids vs. parents. Can't even blame the responsible party. There in is part of the problem.

Geez, the word yuppie was around before Fox TV, let alone Fox news....you know that.

A yuppie is essentially someone who has no sense of hard physical work. You can evolve into a yuppie or be born that way. They are often young, urban professionals and elitists. I thought this was sell established.

Kids are not upwardly mobile because they are both taught they don't actually need to work hard and so many barriers have been put in place. Most young folks see their only option as employment, where there is very little upward mobility, most will only shift jobs as they go through life if they are lucky, mostly lateral moves.

Yuppie stands for Young Urban Professional so I don't think they are that. Since most don't have professions.
What a brilliant opportunity for the Generation Y people who have ambition and are willing to work hard!
