A political ad produced by a Massachusetts state rep is getting national attention today thanks to its universal message: Parents just don't understand.
The openly gay liberal lawmaker Carl M. Sciortino, Jr., who is running to replace now-Senator Ed Markey in next month's special primary election, appears in the ad opposite his dad, Carl M. Sciortino, Sr. — a staunch Tea Party Republican.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The only thing I take umbrage with is that comment above by Neetzan Zimmerman is the all-inclusive nature of the statement.
There are certainly parents that understand and support their gay siblings... and other family members.
Hm. I took it as tongue-in-cheek joking since teenagers know that their parents 'just don't understand them', and those of us who've grown up and had kids of our own now understand our parents point of view much better. I didn't consider it at all from accepting a gay, transgender, opposite political party, different religion, or any other category that a child could be from their parent, nor did I think it was all-inclusive since she didn't say "All parents just don't understand", she just didn't qualify it as "Some parents just don't understand."
It was a very light-hearted, positive, non-bashing-an-opponent commercial; I could live with a lot more of those.

I just wanted to use "Her comment has that Lady Jazzer smell to it." in a sentence.
P.S. Go over to the Flume and see my front page article about the 1 million dollar grant that the Coalition for the Upper Platte received for fire mitigation projects.
