lol Private software and web page designers are laughing about how poorly designed the new websites are. Maybe Obama should have subcontracted the whole thing out to Google or Apple. Think they would have had better results?

Yet how long did it take to write the 2500+ page bill?
I read ALL of the bill about 1 1/2 weeks before the vote... and during that 1 1/2 week period, the ACTUAL bill that went to the lawmakers were 1000 pages longer.

Did I miss something, someone is shutting down the country or trying????
Last I looked the people representatives have decided that 17% of government classified as nonessential is shut down. That is not even 1/5 of one segment of our govt.
That is far from shutting down the country, and pales in comparison to the unemployed or the typical Sunday, which most of us look forward to.
The most the president could come up with today was how unprofessional it was to jerk federal employees around.
As long as everyone agrees that the federal govt should have their hand in everything because they are so reliable and do everything better than locals. CNN is running stories about the funding of local branch trimming coming from the fed...and they don't even realize how bad they are making the system look, not the current players that are playing the existing system. Many in the media literally seem addicted to the system, pretending like LJ does that the federal govt is the country, in stead of a background support net that seems to be failing.
OTN, good point. Obama claims the TEA Party is shutting down government but some 80% of it is still going. Contrary to media mis-characterization, the Republicans don't want to shut down everything, they just want to stop the out of control spending.
It is like everytime the Republicans decide to limit some spending, the cuts are to the bone and include not only fat but also the muscle. Wheras if the Dems want to cut a part of the budget, it is called a prudent cost-saving measure.

To be clear I am not taking one of the two lame sides. We need them to do so little that this type of crisis is not even possible. This is the lesson here. The addiction that no one will discuss. No one will learn it, we will repeat the lesson in a few years.
Plus, as reported, in the absence of the federal govt, those in need (the poor) and those that help them (the federal employees) are getting together to continue their charity mission on SugarDaddy.com, who has reported a 50% jump in sales since the Federal govt shut down 17%. Many similar sites are seeing similar results.
I bet if we look close enough we will see the CNN owns SugarDaddy.com.
