A federal appeals court on Thursday upheld Texas' tough abortion restrictions that have led to the closure of nearly 20 clinics around the state, saying the new rules don't jeopardize women's health.
A panel of judges at the New Orleans-based 5th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a lower court judge who said the rules violate the U.S. Constitution and served no medical purpose. Despite the lower court's ruling, the appeals court already had allowed some rules to go into effect while it considered the case. The latest decision means more regulations will begin later this year, as scheduled, and sets the case up for a likely appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
No, I won't change the title... Just because the 5th Circuit reversed it doesn't mean it will stand. It could make it to the SCOTUS and be reversed again...OR, we could end up with a new governor in Texas and flip enough seats to throw out the extremist wackos and rescind the b.s. that Perry and his goons passed in the first place. If we do that, then the court decisions are rendered moot.
But you're not bitter are you LJ? It's too bad that Legislators in Texas have applied common sense to this law.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford
Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus
The Boss wrote: ..you see, this is the one choice in the whole world she feels people can make without the help or mandate of govt.
On the contrary, there are many choices I feel people should be able to make without the help or mandate of the government:
1) Who they can marry
2) Where they can work, and who they can work for, regardless of who they are
3) That they can get contraception coverage under their insurance policies without some religious wacko in the corporate office inserting his personal beliefs into the equation
4) Being able to join and serve in the military without their orientation being part of the equation
5) Being able to tell some proselytizing nitwit to bugger off when they try to shove their religion down someone's throat when they make it clear they don't want it.
.
.
There are so many more... It's too bad the Righties can't figure out how to cheer for "less gub'mnt" without trying to insert their screwed up beliefs into so many areas that are no one else's business, and none of their concern.
