Is It All Over For Conservatives In America?

Are just too many people on the dole and guaranteed to be lifetime Dem voters?
Can the Hispanic minority vote ever return like it did with "W"?
Is the GOP too splintered between old guard GOP, TEA Party, social conservatives versus libertarians?

I have a couple friends who have just given up. They will continue to vote but they think the country has gone over the cliff and we can't backup now.

Personally I think there is still hope, only six years after Watergate, the GOP won back the White House. And after 12 years of GOP Presidents, Clinton was able to break in thanks to Ross Perot. Americans are a finicky bunch and parties can change their message.

Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.

All the old folks are dying off. Demographics will kill the repubs unless they reinvent.
Let's see if they are dinosaurs or can adapt.

IMHO...we're beyond the point of no return. And I don't think it's a D vs R. We are a one-party system and we are heading toward socialism where the political elite will dictate how we live and what few freedoms we have left. We will never again live in a Constitutional Republic. I'm just thankful I had the opportunity to grow up and enjoy most of my adult life living in a free society. It's been a good life. Makes me so sad for my kids and future generations. Just wish I could shake off the terrible funk it's put me in.

Dianne Feinstein (oldest Democrat) 80 years old
Carl Levin (Democrat) 79 years old
Barbara Mikulski (Democrat) 77 years old
Jay Rockefeller (Democrat) 76 years old
Tom Harkin (Democrat) 73 years old
Harry Reid (Democrat) 73 years old
Patrick Leahy (Democrat) 73 years old
Barbara Boxer (Democrat) 72 years old
Bernie Sanders (Socialist) 72 years old
Max Baucus (Democrat) 71 years old
Bill Nelson (Democrat) 71 years old
Ben Cardin (Democrat) 70 years old

All the old folks are dying off. Demographics will kill the Democrats unless they start following the Constitution. Let's see if they are dinosaurs or can adapt. Their coalition is shaky at best. Tough when half are far left progressives.

(You're argument has no more foundation in reality than my example above. Is that all you got?)

You forgot my two favorites... Bawny Fwank and Chucky Rangel... nuttier than squirrel poop.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

I'm guessing yes. No matter what name it takes, we've always had "liberals/progressives" and "conservatives" in some way, shape or form. Who is in power vacillates with who's perceived to have done the most harm recently, or who's going to do better with the challenges facing the country, whether it be war, economy, etc. Good leaders can be found in either party, and good ideas can be found in either party, what matters now is if they can overcome the huge momentum of negative partisan-ship that's got a stranglehold on their ability to work effectively together to come to solutions that are for the better of all, to realize that to compromise doesn't mean sacrificing principles.

The big problem now isn't that Democrats are evil, or Republicans are evil, it's that those in power and with money are making this country more and more lopsided between the Haves and the Have-Nots. It's not R vs D, it's class disparity and unfair opportunity vs power and unfair advantage. If that can be re-balanced (likely not without major upheaval), then it will go back to a back and forth between liberals and conservatives again.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

If you made me bet, I would guess Chris Christie will be our next pres.

Regarding are republicans done? Old school are I believe, but strict conservatives who care more about the fiscal shape of our country instead of social issues (which are used as a wedge for one issue voters) will be on the upswing. At some point the young people in our country will realize what the old dems/old reps have done to their future, and will take over. I would bet once they realize that they will never get all the gravy entitlements they are now funding, they will bring in their own people to change that.

Who knows though....I'm just tired of the politicians who don't care anything about us little people. There is something criminal about "representing your state/district" in Washington, and instead becoming extremely wealthy and set for the rest of your life.

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!

I agree 100% (and you know me, so you know where hence I come from). But when you have inane comments from folks like "fly off the handle" like "Tough when half are nuts" sometimes you just have to get into the gutter and play their juvenile games.

We now have a real Political Class, the new 1% and blaming "old folks" (on either side) for the state of our union, as if "old folks" are not capable of thinking rationally, is a cheap shot from someone who hasn't matured yet.

Many "old folks" have a better understanding of the world then any of the "invincible" youth who are just waking up to the fact that while their backs were turned, they were getting screwed.

Wisdom counts for a lot.

What Renegade said, GOP Old School is done. I want to see how McConnell fairs in 2014. But I think we will see a number of changes in seats in both the DEMS and GOP in 2014 and even more in 2016. GOP will have to embrace the tea party and younger more conservative leadership if it wants to survive instead of doing their middle of the road RINO thing. That's already available in the Dems.
