In 6 of the 11 counties, the citizens of Colorado decided they wish to remain citizens of Colorado, but in 5 of the counties, the citizens expressed a desire to form a new State. Those 5 counties form a continuous boundary, which was one of the necessary components for the measure to move forward. So is the issue dead or will these 5 counties move forward in the process given that the requirement has been met?
I am curious to see how this will proceed. Does the rest of Colorado get to vote on letting them go? Because losing these rural counties will make Colorado more urban and most likely blue. Although it might be worth it to get two more red state senators.

In my understanding now the next step is for the 6 counties that wanted to stay to APPROVE the 5 counties that want to leave. That is a US constitution requirement.
Too bad there is the requirement that they need to be contiguous. Looks like there would be some more rural counties who would like to join them.
As for likelihood of it happening, not a chance. The other counties aren't going to let them go. Who wants to lose all that revenue and control over them.
It looks like these rural counties might be placated with a senate system like the US. Each Colorado country would get one or two senators instead of the current artificial system of districts. If approved, this would give rural counties more power.

So much for a republic. Obama keeps referring to it as a democracy.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot what this country was about. Making sure the marginalized have less say.
FH why would they want to give them more power?

Because the Dems realized they overstepped in this session, especially with the gun laws and penalizing the rural poor with higher electricity rates? Or they are tired of being recalled?

Democracy is a political marketing word because everyone thinks the majority should make all the decisions.
People should recognize that we have democratic undertones but we are far from a democracy, if were were we would have voted on the ACA ourselves in stead of picking a elite group of 500-1000 people to make this decision for us...you know, a republic.
Democracy is a marketing word and if mentioned, someone is trying to sell you something, most likely they are trying to sell you the opposite of a democracy, they are trying to sell you that they will make a better decision for you. Remember they will only sell, when you have the option to buy. You will know you have few options when the word stops getting mentioned.
So I don't like hearing the word because it is a lie, but I like hearing it because it means we have not completely lost the right to choose ourselves.
What happens next is that the tantrum-throwing faction will continue to complain because they lost the elections and are not getting their way...(Which is what elections are all about.) And they will be relegated to the dustbin of history, as they should be.
I guess they still can't get over the fact that there's a BLACK MAN in their WHITE HOUSE. Imagine my surprise.
