David Eckert and the Reality of the American Police State

"David Eckert failed to make a complete stop at a stop sign after shopping at a Wal-Mart in Deming, New Mexico. Police asked him to step out of his vehicle. They said he appeared to be clenching his buttocks, citing this as probable cause to search his anal cavity for drugs. While detaining him, the police got a warrant from a judge. They took him to a hospital, and over the initial protest of hospital staff that these tests were unethical, they forced Eckert to go through a litany of invasive procedures. They x-rayed his abdominal area. They used fingers to examine his anus more than once. They gave him an enema and forced defecation—three times. Then they sedated him and performed a colonoscopy, examining his anus, rectum, colon, and large intestines. Then Eckert was given the medical bill for these expensive procedures.

Of course, the police found no drugs, which is part of why this story is getting so much attention. But even if they had, is this sort of indignity, this degree of invasive coerced treatment, ever justifiable to search for drugs? This case raises lots of questions, not about the abuse of power, but about the power that’s being abused."...

Read about it at another site.

Reminds me of the abuses that occurred in Park County decades ago and continue to this day. But lets not just point to them. It happens. No surprise or shock or anything else that it is still happening today. The best news is that there is the internet to send it viral and when possible phones to take pictures a/o video.

And as bad as that is, can you imagine being tased numerous times to stop you from trying to rescue your own son from a fire? Sitting in the back of a squad car, handcuffed, after being tased and watching the fire burn knowing your son is inside that house and that force was used on you to prevent any attempt on your part to save your son?

Since when does law enforcement's powers extend to denying you the ability to put your own health or life at risk if you so choose? I certainly don't believe that a police officer or a firefighter is required to take the risk of entering a burning building to save someone's child, but should they really have the power and authority to prevent someone else from taking that risk themselves? Since when do I need the permission of the State to use my hose to put out the flames in a neighbor's home?

A firefighter in full bunker gear had to turn back because of the heat, how far do you think the father would have been able to penetrate into the home? Does a father not have the right to sacrifice his own life trying to save the life of his son any longer? And if not, when did he lose it?

Just heard this assault is finally making the rounds on NPR and other progressive programs. It's about time we unite as Americans and put partisan politics aside. The reason law enforcement thugs like these feel empowered is because of the current leadership in the DOJ. Just as 9/11 united Americans, assaults like this and those posted above should bring us together again. Otherwise, we're just frogs in water...

RAID ON THE FOURTH ESTATE: Colorado Observer Reporter’s House Ransacked by Feds

Audrey Hudson, a former Vail Daily reporter and the current Washington Correspondent for The Colorado Observer, had her Maryland house raided by Homeland Security, federal marshals, and the Maryland State Police. The federal agents, one of whom identified himself as a former air marshal, sifted through boxes and boxes of notes, and asked if she was the same reporter who wrote a series of stories for The Washington Times exposing the air marshals program for inflating its numbers.

I would argue this.

Though more people know about it, the only people that will still do anything to protect this guy will be the family and the lawyers.

All the folks like us will just post about this and then say bummer when it happens to our neighbor and stamp our feet with no effect when it happens to your wife or son.

My wife made me laugh when she said she would have just left when they started the probe on her. I just laughed. Like anyone but those cops decide anything. Odds of them getting in trouble 5% or as discussed, zero. 4 magic words, they just followed procedure.

Most will not even write or call this police force at their phone number 575.542.3833.

This should be common cause between the libertarian elements of the right and the non-facist elements of the left. I would be happy to see it.

I think the current DOJ is more a symptom than a cause. I think the underlying issue is the mindset that the gov is supposed to take care of us instead of working for us.

David Eckert's attorney on Glenn Beck's show yesterday. The guy was billed $6,000 for the assault. Appalling.

Abuses have been going on for decades. Current DOJ has nothing to do with it. Regardless it would be good to see people decide to get involved and stop the abuses.

"The Associated Press reports that the city of Deming, New Mexico, where David Eckert was pulled over for a rolling stop last January, and nearby Hidalgo County have agreed to settle a civil rights lawsuit he filed after cops from those two jurisdictions forced him to undergo a humiliating exploration of his digestive tract. The city and county will pay Eckert $1.6 million, which amounts"...
