Only your name, address, DOB and SS# will be needed to actually sign you up for the program. And just how do you think that this is going to be accomplished over the phone or in person? By entering the exchange portal and typing in that information perhaps? And who is it that is going to be navigating you through that exchange portal if not the navigators that the HHS Secretary has informed us are not having their backgrounds checked prior to being employed?fly off the handle wrote: They asked for name and address, also my age and wether I smoked.
you have no idea what you are trying to talk about.
when I apply I do that on the phone or in person. Do you think that any business vets their telemarketers? no health info is needed or credit info.
you are an idiot
FWIW, I agree it is much ado about nothing really. It is very similar in construction to the nonsense that the Hudak supporters are pulling by calling the people in the recall district and informing them that the person circulating the petition hasn't been background checked in a vain attempt to scare the elderly and stay at home moms away from answering the door to sign the recall petition.

Actually, yes, most businesses do a background check on people who will have access to sensitive information. Their reputation would suffer if you became a victim of identity theft because of one of their employees, so it is in their best interests to do all that they can to make sure that they don't hire people with a shady past. When sensitive information is hijacked, most companies will also sign you up free of charge with a credit protection service as a means of demonstrating that they have taken proactive measures to limit any damages you may suffer.fly off the handle wrote: They asked for name and address, also my age and wether I smoked.

Can the same be said for healthcare.gov and their navigators?

Actually, no, you DON'T have to give your SSN to your cable provider or any other service like that although they may ask for it. You get out of that by paying a deposit which I gladly did when signing up with Comcast.on that note wrote:

That is a cute response, can you put a % on "most". You need to give you SS# to get cable. Do you really think the person taking your cable order has been vetted. I have lots of stores and on line businesses, I could require a SS# to even make a purchase. I can require names, addresses, licensees, hair color and I do require good attitude. I agree that the private sector is likely safer, but there are not enforceable requirements and you should have both no expectation of privacy once you give someone else your info, and if govt was going to do anything, it would require that you DON't have to give this info...or god forbid, they make up new numbers that no one else cares about.
285bound could require that your screen name is your SS# and your address.
Even more freaky, tomorrow Facebook could require it and I bet that 70% of users give it.
