"New numbers predict not only that the U.S. will surpass Russia and Saudi Arabia as the world’s top oil producing nation, but that the U.S. will become nearly energy self-sufficient in the next two decades.

Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, of shale oil in areas like North Dakota and Texas will boost the U.S. to the top of the oil charts, beating out Russia and Saudi Arabia, according to the International Energy Agency. Production will rise from last year’s 9.2 million barrels a day to 11.6 million barrels of oil a day by 2020.

While U.S. oil production booms, Saudi"...

Don't let Algore find out! We are supposed to be morning the drowning polar bears that ran out of ice and debating why we are buying imported oil.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

What was the progressive talking points from a while back... wasn't it something like "the US only has 2% of the worlds oil and we're running out fast"?

It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers−out of unorthodoxy

Yes I remember it Rick, "don't bother exploring for oil in the US because we don't have enough to make any difference". Yet we keep finding tons more.

And if we start drilling in America, we won't see the results for 20 years. Remember that one?

"It would take 10 years to get oil out of Anwar"... that was back in the Clinton days.

It will take us 1000 years to pay off the debt so we shouldn't worry about that either.

http://freebeacon.com/moveon-announces- ... king-boom/

"Leading left-wing advocacy group MoveOn.org announced a new effort on Thursday to oppose innovations that are propelling the country towards a new abundance of domestically produced energy.

MoveOn bemoaned in an email to supporters the “troubling trend” of increased energy production, which is reducing the U.S. trade deficit, creating well-paying jobs, stabilizing global energy prices, and undermining the economic engine behind some of the world’s most repressive regimes.

MoveOn announced the creation of a new effort called “#FrackingFighter,” which “seeks to slow down the fracking boom that is anticipated to occur across the United States in 2014 and beyond.”

Didn't we go over this in another thread?

Lets assume that the US increases it's production to 11.6 million barrels a day by 2020.
That is more than the Saudi's total.

But self sufficient, nonsense.
The US consumption in 2012 was 18.555 million barrels a day.
Assume it does not increase in the next 6 years.
That means we would still be importing from foreign countries 7 million barrels a day.
That is not how I would define self sufficiency.

Unless we reduce our consumption by about 40%.

Not self sufficient but a good start. Maybe by the time we drain the US technology will have found better energy sources.
