The War Against Achievement

"JewishWorldReview.com | A friend recently sent me a link to an inspiring video about an upbeat young black man who was born without arms. It showed him going to work — unlike the record number of people living on government payments for "disabilities" that are far less serious, if not fictitious.
How is this young man getting to work? He gets into his car and drives there — using controls set up so that he can operate the car with his feet.
What kind of work does he do, and how does he do it? He is involved in the design of racing cars. He sits at his computer, looking at the screen, with the keyboard on the floor, where he uses his toes as others use their fingers.
His story recalls the story of Helen Keller, who went to an elite college and on to a career, despite being both deaf and blind. Her story was celebrated in books, in television documentaries and in an inspiring movie, "The Miracle Worker."
But our culture has changed so much over the years that the young man with no arms is unlikely to get comparable publicity. Helen Keller's achievement was seen as an inspiration for others, but this young man's achievement is more like a threat to the prevailing ideology of our times."...

I'm getting a little sick of anything that begins with 'the war on...', that phrase is absolutely meaningless to me. But I do agree there is a growing progressive ideology that puts dependancy and victimhood ahead of self-sufficiency and achievenment. In my opinion, its only going to get worse... at a time when it's even more important for citizens to fight their way through life without the help of a broke government.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Oh please, really? Progressives don't champion self-sufficiency and achievement? That's ridiculous stereotyping. Here, let me try another one for ya: the ones who want us dependent are the wealthy who are more likely to become conservative wanting to protect their money. Ring false? That's cuz it is, on both counts. The ones who want people dependent are the ones who stand to make a gain on it, plain and simple. Start looking at those precious corporations, banks, Wall St moguls who got off scott-free after crashing the economy, and the politicians who they keep feeding.

It's my opinion that liberals/progressives push for more government involvement and "help" with people's lives that keep their dependant voter base turning out at the polls. So I agree with your statement:

The ones who want people dependent are the ones who stand to make a gain on it, plain and simple.

If the Democrats didn't have a massive pool a percieved "victims" and "disennfranchised", they would lose every election because as we are seeing, their policies DON'T WORK. And they certainly don't encourage people to work.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
