The emperor has hipster garb, but underneath he’s just another Commissar Squaresville. So, health care being an irredeemable downer for the foreseeable future, this week the president pivoted (as they say) to “economic inequality,” which will be, he assures us, his principal focus for the rest of his term. Once again he uses his power to influence the taking of other people's money in order to salvage a sector of his voter base, the voters who are starting to understand the ugly underbelly of the Democrat party. This will be his new distraction from his signature blunder... just another payoff. Problem is, the minimum wage doesn't do much for the young person who can't find a job.
But when I think about it, maybe he's not trying to save his party, maybe he's just trying to save his self esteem and fan-base.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
Economic inequality? What's the difference between that term and 'redistribution of wealth?'
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Actually I see a bigger picture. Perhaps it is just that morose time of year, Bailey Bud rubbing off or an overdose of sf but I think the piece is addressing the future from a different light. Perhaps we are headed to a future where we are all plugged into the matrix or a future where we are all Morlocks or Eloi's.
We should probably mandate abortions until the labor supply is reduced to just enough to fill the demand.
I'll qualify my post by admitting that I am afflicted with a severe case of CRS, however it seems to me that the Chinese tried to slow their ever growing population by mandating that each married heterosexual, married couple was allowed to have a single child. There were a few necessary medical procedures like sterilization of women and other things that happened when an individual departed from the laws of the land and then "disappeared" but oddly their families got bills for single rounds of ammunition.
I might be wrong, but after several decades that Chinese government recently repealed that law (probably because it was unenforceable - that's just a guess in my part). Over all I can only conclude that even the Chi-coms came to the realization that the population would outgrow the Government's ability to provide for everyone, perhaps even recognizing that if left unchecked, the peasants would raise up and there would be another revolution.

I believe you are wrong. Working from memory I believe what happened is that since they were limited to one child, first born girls were killed since males have more value in a rural society.
So the law was enforceable but gave rise to a second order problem. Too much testosterone.
I am sure our liberal/progressive political class can handle it a whole lot smarter. Just ask Joe Biden or look at how well they are handling universal health care.
3 years, hundreds of millions of $. What could go wrong.
I have no doubt that our Dear Leader has every citizen's best interests in mind. We should be nothing other than grateful to give what we have for the betterment of the collective.

For every dollar they raise the min wage, I will lower the wage of the folks making more than min wage by $1.
One state where I just set up a manufacturing facility for a new venture I am doing which is going well, they have begun voting in significant increases to the min wage. We broke down the shop, worked things out with our landlord and we are moving to another state. I don't pay min wage, but this change is going to completely play musical chairs out of lower wage employees (those say under $25-30/hour) and I don't want to have to deal with that for months or years. Easier just to move where things are more stable. As folks know, wages are frozen right now because of the ACA and not knowing what it will do to us employers, the ones actually running and making the decisions for the economy.
People in govt and employee types just don't get it. They are voting away their opportunity.
OTN,
Good point, we are finally starting to see manufacturing return to the US because of concerns about Chinese quality and now Obama wants to shoot America in the foot. Raise wages and lose jobs.
