Stimulate the economy?
As a time to encourage your children to sign up for healthcare coverage?
For me? Just a time to get together with friends and family, and also get some free time to catch up on my reading and take some nice hikes. Looks like it might be a pretty mild Christmas week.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
The reason for the season? To celebrate the birth of the Savior. That's simple enough, even for you, isn't it Walter? What you make of the season, what society makes of the season, does nothing to alter the reason for the season, does it?
Ironic, in a way, that the time for this celebration was originally chosen to coincide with other religious celebrations (winter solstice) in order to make it easier to accept the religion dictated by Rome (somewhere around 220 A.D. if memory serves correctly) and today the effort is made to try and turn it secular and away from any religious connections at all despite the ties that it has always had to religion of one fashion or another.
This season has always had a religious connection, even before Jesus was born. It is a celebration of the return of light to the world. Whether one is celebrating the return of the Sun, or the birth of the Son, it is still a celebration of light.
May all of you and your families find a renewal of light in your lives this season, whatever your individual beliefs happen to be. May your time together strengthen the bonds between you, may your spirits be lifted, may you enjoy each others company and may the renewal of light that has always been celebrated this season also renew something bright inside of you.

And also a happy Hannekuh to my Jewish friends, merry Kwanzaa to my friends of African heritage, a very happy Yuletide to my Druid friends and a Festivus for the rest of us.

I had to recheck who posted this. At first it appeared to be some of LJ's angry, pointless, hate-filled diatribe.
Merry Christmas, Mr. Newton. I sincerely wish health, peace, and happiness to you and your family and to everyone else in our wonderful mountain community....(Yep, even LJ).

No it was just my angry, pointless, hate-filled diatribe.
I created this thread as satire, humor, lightheartedness. An intelligent person would realize that I was trying to say these things are NOT the reason for the season.
I have no problem with PrintSmith's message, only his "That's simple enough, even for you, isn't it Walter" slam.
Either PrintSmith is so clueless as to irony or he's left his humor gene in the closet.
