Saudi interview with left-leaning network: Obama screwed up

It's no secret the Saudis are not fond of President Obama - more specifically - his habit of non-engagement with Iran and Syria.

However, a member of the Saudi royal family took an unusual step in discussing that discontent openly. Prince Turki is nowhere near a fundamentalist redneck Arab. In fact, Turki had known disputes with the more hawkish Bush administration.

The crux of his criticism ---- if you can get an agreement on chemical weapons - why not get an agreement on stopping the war? His answer
The US has issues with "doing the right thing."

I do wonder what happened to the "Assad must go" drumbeat we were hearing before chemical weapons were ever used. I don't think murder by conventional methods is any more humane than murder with chemical weapons. In fact, Syria seems to have completely dropped off the public radar as if that problem has just been fixed. Now that Iraq is going under and the Syrian border has pretty much been erased, Iran must be feeling pretty good these days... especially considering they've been given some breathing room on their nuke program.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

BB,
Why does the House of Saud want to see Assad gone so badly? It seems like for decades Saudi Arabia was OK with this dictatorship. Aren't they a little worried about what will happen if the government falls?
Personally I have no love for either side after initially supporting anti-Assad forces. Is it just about the Syrian alliance with Iran?
And is Saudi Arabia also worried about Shia dominated Iraq?
