I was at the bank today, went inside to deposit an IRA withdrawal check, with a little cash back. Teller asks for my drivers license. I ask why, I've had an account there forever, plenty of money in account to cover the cash even if the Scottrade check was bogus. Says it's because of the cash back. Says in a couple of weeks any cash transaction, depositing cash, withdrawing cash, will require them to record info from drivers license. For everybody. Says pilot program in Kentucky and Tennessee going on awhile, about to go national at Chase. Says if you want to give your kid cash and have him/her deposit it in bank, you can't because kid doesn't have drivers license. Must deposit in your account and then transfer or write check. He was very unhappy about the prospect of recording all those drivers license's over $10 transactions.

Drug money laundering is the excuse he was given although I really don't get that angle. Like the Latin Kings are going to launder small change through some kids bank account.
Anybody else hear of this? What's really up with it?

Replied by LOL on topic big brother walks among us?
Its getting so I hate going to the bank teller anymore, they always try to sell you something like overdraft or a new savings account, probably have a sales quota to meet. And now the ATMS ask alot of questions too. Where is the NO button, and just give me my freaking cash already. :)

Big Brother is us.

Read the new sci-fi thriller "The Circle." Interesting concept. With all the social media, phones with cameras and video cameras, Google, Facebook etc... we are doing a lot of the governments job of tracking and keeping tabs on ourselves.

I've always had to show ID for a cash transaction. What's the big deal? The rules are there to protect your money.

I won a few thousand dollars at the casino and went to deposit it in my bank and they asked in a round about way how I got it.
I told them how and then they didn't have a problem with it and if I had to prove it they could just call the casino.
But right away they raised their eyebrows.
