Stewart Brand is no stranger to the environmental movement ---- he founded the Whole Earth catalog long before anyone was thinking about the environment.
Here's what he has to say to environmentalists, today: "Tone it down!....."
Brand is not a deny-er. In fact, he calls climate change "inexorable." At the same time, he notes that "global warming is proceeding less rapidly than expected." He also points out that many of the predictions about warming are flat-out wrong.
Where does this leave Brand --- "precautionary." Honestly - I'm fine with precautionary thinking. What I don't like is politicizing science. Politics never has solved problems, and never will. However, as an informed and educated individual, I'm fine with taking precautions to live a little more sustainably.
Good post. Reminds me of the drug war. People were told drugs were going to kill you, "Reefer Madness" extremes. But soon people realised they were lying or over-dramatizing and the climate change people are now losing their credibility. And you think that would get them to re-adjust, but now you have Kerry saying that Global Warming is our biggest enemy.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
How many times have I said it BB? Environmentalism is more about religion and politics than science, and the climate change hysteria is 'fear du jour'. I will agree with him about 'living sustainably'. That's been my position for over 20 years. His comments about peak oil are right on as well as the 'calamatists'. People are gullible and fear sells.
But, as long as folks like Gore and Strong and making massive profits with scams like the ETS, the propaganda will continue.

Actually, you have Kerry demonizing and ridiculing anyone who questions the high priests (i.e. IPCC scientists). When the computer models fail and their dire predictions do not pan out, this is what they resort to. But, there is far too much money and control at stake to give up the fight.

And NOBODY likes to be proven wrong, so they will twist every weather situation to fit their climate positions... something they all told us not to do when the global warming alarm first went off.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
