Albertsons & Safeway To Merge

Cerebrus which already owns Albertsons looks to be finalizing the purchase of Safeway. They have promised no changes in the metro area but these two and King Soopers have been getting beat up by WalMart and Costco.

Last I saw on the news Kings was the front runner on buying Safeway I don't care either way.

Since there is not an Albertsons up here the only thing I can say is I hope they don't stock items inside boxes like the Evergreen Albertson's use to it looks trashy to me. I know that it might be easier but I would rather buy a product that I can see not one that is in a box because they do not want to take it out.

I'm weird I know the only way I would go for this type of merchandising is if you could see a savings in the price.

Oh well just my thoughts.

I have always liked King Soopers over other stores but I'll admit Albertsons used to have some good deals on meat. For the most part these days I buy my dry goods at Costco and a lot of my meat from Costco too. Fruit, veg, bread, and dairy mostly get bought at King Soopers mostly because there's no way for me to eat the volumes of perishable products Costco sells before they spoil, even though Costco's price per unit is normally lower than the grocery stores.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

If Kings/Kroger had won the bid I think a lot of Safeways would have had to close.

We buy meat from Costco and cheese you can not beat the price even on sale at the grocery store.

Toilet paper and paper towel are other items we get.

It is a once a month trip down the hill that we make and the rewards that we get back are more than what our membership cost.

I will also say that Costco gets a lot f business from us during the holidays.

We do not shop Walmart much don't find the savings they have worth the drive to town.

We have always shopped the warehouses even when Priceclub was the only game in town.

We have tried walmart a couple times but find ourselves buying too much junk food and don't like their produce or meat.

And if you are at the higher level of membership for Costco - you get a percentage of your total purchase price back at the end of the year. If you buy that much, it definitely is worth it.

And they have great dog food.
