This Day In History

Pretty significant day today. In 1854 France and Great Britain declared war on Russia. It became the Crimean War. Little remembered now except nurse Florence Nightingale was involved in this war. And the Charge of The [Light Brigade. The poem imortalizing the doomed unit. The other event was the fall of Madrid in 1939. Franco's forces seized the Spanish capital from Soviet backed loyalists effectively ending the Spanish Civil War. This war has been called the dress rehearsal for World War II with the Soviets supplying equipment and troops to the standing government and Hitler & Mussolini supplying to Franco's fascist armies.
