Billionaire's Scam: SS won't exist when Millennial's get old

There are as many screw-up teachers and administrators in charter schools as public schools. To make the blanket assumption that because it's a "charter school" it's automatically "better" is ludicrous. We've already seen what the free-market has done to prisons, security, AND some charter schools.

I don't have any problem with charter schools as long as what they offer is also available in the near by general public schools that many people HAVE to send their children to because they cannot afford the additional tuition(where that it's the case), they are unable to get their children to the charter school because there is no bus service, or there are not enough spaces available for every child that wants to go there. If you are going to use public funds for these schools then that education better be available tio anyone who wants it.

Who is making that blanket assumption?

Just think...If they could transplant that kind of dumbed-down view to other charter systems...and then make taxpayers pay for it through their taxes with vouchers.

Sadly it is worse than just teaching Creationism as science. Illiterate kids are getting passed through the system.

Sorry, but I absolutely disagree that education should be decided by parents. When you look at stats like 1 in 4 Americans Apparently Unaware the Earth Orbits the Sun there is no way in hell I would ever want those people deciding my kids educational standards. Public education was supposed to be how those who couldn't afford to pay for education could still learn so that they could make a good living for themselves and make their way in life, better themselves and their own children. It was never meant to oppress or brainwash, and that's not fair to portray liberals as wanting that.[/quote]

So SC, have you seen waiting for superman????

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!

In my experience the kids who do best in school have parents who are very involved in their kids educations.

I'm not asking that you let other parents decide your kids education, I'm saying parents should decide their own kids education.

The sad thing is, whether you realize it or not, public schools are used to brainwash, and used to keep the poor poor. There are good public schools, but like any successful business, they need competition to thrive and to do the best for their customers (the students). Right now, it doesn't matter how bad a school is. Parents who don't have means HAVE to send their kids there. Why does our system force the poor into bad schools, which virtually guarantees they will never get out of the poor loop. Why not vouchers to allow them to escape? What doesn't $$ follow the student?
