McCutcheon v FEC as viewed through the filters at the NYT

“There is no right more basic in our democracy,” Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. wrote in the opening of his opinion for the court in McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission, “than the right to participate in electing our political leaders.”

But make no mistake, like other rulings by the Roberts court that have chipped away at campaign-finance regulations in recent years, the McCutcheon decision is less about free speech than about giving those few people with the most money the loudest voice in politics.

You want to talk absurd? I can tell you who has the loudest voice in politics, and it isn't the brothers Koch or George Soros. No, the loudest voice in politics belongs to news outlets like the NYT, the LA Times, CBS, ABC, NBC, Wall Street Journal and others of their ilk.

Thanks to Wednesday’s decision, the interests of the very few wealthiest Americans — which differ significantly from those of most Americans — will now get even more outsize consideration by legislators.

Another absurd assertion. Can anyone tell me how the views of a wealthy libertarian, progressive or conservative differ from the views of a poor one? Does wishing for the repeal of the (un)Affordable Care Act, or for the return of a ban on certain semi-automatic firearms based on their appearance, have anything at all to do with how much money you make?

IMO it is time that all political donations be taxed at a high rate and that tax collected should go directly towards paying off the debt that previous politicians have left unpaid.

I like it!

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
