And why are you so worked up about a treatment that costs 16% less, takes half the time, and is more effective at curing the disease than current treatments for this very same disease which cause drastically more severe side effects on those afflicted with the disease?
PS....BECAUSE I wanted everyone to TRULY understand WHO is paying for this drug......the
taxpayer....and IF you think healthcare sucks because of Obamacare JUST WAIT....when the
bill for THIS treatment hits the wallets of the everyday Americans....READ THE LINK.....it
explicitly states that fact.....YOU are footing the fee for this drug.....and OTHER DRUGS that
have brought the healthcare system TO IT'S KNEES AND OBAMACARE IS THE RESULT...NOT JMO
Medicaid, ie the taxpayer, gets an off the top 23.1% discount from the list price by federal statute, bringing the cost down to roughly $65K, not much different from that charged to the UK or Germany, and the VA gets a discount above and beyond that. Kaiser negotiated a discount price with Gilead because they see the cost benefits of treating their patients with this phenomenal treatment today rather than employing less effective and more costly treatments which were the only options until this treatment was approved for use. The taxpayers are currently paying $100K per course, before the discount, for a less effective treatment with significantly greater side effects for the person afflicted with the disease, which means that Solvadi is saving the taxpayers money and delivering better cure rates in the process. What is so hard to wrap your head around about that?
And why is Gilead discounting the price to Egypt, India and China? Might it have something to do with those nations threatening Gilead with refusing to recognize its patent otherwise? Is that the kind of strongarming you want our government to resort to as well?
