"“It did scare a number of people that were in the area,” said Wasau police department Capt. Ben Bliven. “They thought that there were actually firearms being drawn and pointed at other people, which is very concerning for citizens in the community.”
Wasau residents told WAOW-TV that they were alarmed when a small group of high school seniors began running around their neighborhood shooting one another with plastic nerf guns. Apparently unable to distinguish brightly colored plastic toys from actual weapons, frenzied residents began to call the police to report the menacing teenage gunmen."...

Good Lord! What is wrong with this country????

Officers say they had no idea that the firearms were actually nerf guns until they had arrested all of the teenage participants at gunpoint. The six students were ticketed for disorderly conduct. Some have since been placed on athletic probation.

Arrested at gunpoint? Ticketed? Athletic probation? They were kids playing with what were obviously toys. I fail to see how that rises to "disorderly conduct" and hope they sue the hell out of the PD.

:sarcasm: Imagine how confusing it would be to see American teenagers running around instead of staring at their iPhones, no wonder the citizens and the cops were so disoriented that they were unable differentiate between toys and real guns. It's a good thing those kids weren't using their fingers as imaginary guns and saying "bang bang," someone might have gotten shot for real!

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus

If it looks like a menacing object, i.e. gun, then treat it as such. If someone pointed one at me, plastic, nerf or otherwise, I would defend myself. Wouldn't we expect the police to do the same? You think the police are going to say, hmmm, they are young, they wouldn't shoot anybody would they, yet they are reported shooting others? I hope the District Attorney nails them. But not to worry the courts repeatedly lets young people get away with crap, so they keep doing it over and over.
