Breaking News: Malaysia Airlines flight crashes in Ukraine

And now you have Israel invading the Gaza Strip to shut down Hamas tunnels, and Libyan rebels are attacking Triploi right now. What else is going to explode this weekend, North Korea? China? South America?

I see three potential scenarios:

1) The separatists shot the plane down. Possible, puts them and Russia in a messy situation.

2) The Ukraine Govt. shot the plane down. More probable as they had closed their airspace to civilian aircraft and could have mistaken it for a military plane. Although that may not hold a lot of water as the plane had already flew through a lot of Ukrainian airspace.

3) The missile was fired from inside Russia. Game changer.

If that's the cast Malaysian Airlines is certainly negligent.

They were ALREADY bordering on bankruptcy with the FIRST EVENT....this is going to tank the carrier.

Yeah, going to be hard to overcome the PR on this one. Even if the plane was shot down in a "drive by".

How about option 4?

The Pro-Russian separatists over ran a Ukrainian position recently that had Buk/SA-11 missile platforms based there. The Buk/SA-11 system requires some training to know how to operate it correctly; there is a lot of speculation that the "Pro-Russian separatists" are actually Russian solders and GRU officers. How ironic would it be when the parts and pieces of the missile(s) and the launch location turn out to be Ukrainian even though the actors who shot down MH17 are actually Russians?!

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Two questions.
Why was the plane in the area in the first place?

Are we watching the start of WWIII?

Who would the players be? Russia and the Ukraine? What would suck the rest of the world in?

Who thought the murder of an archduke would start World War I? Hard to predict the outcome, but last time the Russians shot down a Korean jetliner, a war didn't start even with Reagan saber rattling, or the time a US Navy ship in the Persian Gulf shot down an Iranian jetliner ended peacefully.

Well, that was the tail end of it.

"By the end of the operation, American Marines, ships and aircraft had damaged Iranian naval and intelligence facilities on two inoperable oil platforms in the Persian Gulf, and sank at least three armed Iranian speedboats, one Iranian frigate and one fast attack gunboat. One other Iranian frigate was damaged in the battle.[9] Sabalan was repaired in 1989 and has since been upgraded, and is still in service with the Iranian navy. In short, Iran lost one major warship and a smaller gunboat. Damage to the oil platforms was eventually repaired and they are now back in service.

The U.S. side suffered two casualties, the crew of a Marine Corps AH-1T Sea Cobra helicopter gunship. The Cobra, attached to the USS Trenton, was flying reconnaissance from the Wainwright and crashed sometime after dark about 15 miles southwest of Abu Musa island. The bodies of Capt. Stephen C. Leslie, 30, of New Bern, N.C., and Capt. Kenneth W. Hill, 33, of Thomasville, N.C., were recovered by Navy divers in May, and the wreckage of the helicopter was raised later that month. Navy officials said it showed no sign of battle damage.[10]

A month later, the guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes arrived, summoned in haste to protect the Roberts as it was hauled back to the United States. On 3 July, the Vincennes shot down Iran Air Flight 655, killing all 290 crew and passengers. The U.S. government said the crew of the Vincennes mistook the Iranian Airbus for an attacking F-14 fighter. The Iranian government alleged that the Vincennes knowingly shot down a civilian aircraft."

Irony? Dozens of AIDS researchers from America and the CDC were passengers on the plane going to a conference. Spending their lives protecting the world from HIV and they get taken out by a weapon of war.
