Democrats aren’t the only ones feeling gloomy today

I agree with you archer. Without Harry Reid to keep legislation on his table and off Obama's desk we'll soon find out whether Obama is a pragmatist like Clinton was. First up, most likely, is the Keystone Pipeline. Quite a few Democrats expressed support for it last time so I don't think a filibuster is likely. Lots of legislation passed by the House died on the table in the Senate. That isn't going to be happening for the next 2 years. I also expect to see some changes to the ACA courtesy of the same reconciliation process that was used to get it passed in the first place.

The best news? Obama isn't going to be nominating any more SCOTUS justices in the next two years unless one of them dies before the next general election. I don't think Ginsburg or Breyer will retire with the Senate in Republican hands.

It will be interesting to see how both Governor Hickenlooper and President Obama work with a Republican senate.
I predict John Hickenlooper will work with both sides of the aisle and Barack Obama will refuse to work with McConnell and Boehner.

Using the Dem's rhetoric it looks like the angry old white men sector somehow grew in the last two years in order to continue the war on women.

And since the Dem's were so kind to push the nuclear option into the Senate, it will be interesting to see how/if the Repub's use it with judicial/gubment nominations or in other areas.

No surprise, I tend to agree with Jim Wright's assessment. Caution: strong language contained within.

The Balance of Power
November 3, 2014
"Republicans are poised to take the Senate tomorrow.

And Democrats are terrified.

I’ve got hundreds of messages here, woe woe woe, what are we gonna do, Jim? It’s the end of the world!

America lurches back and forth, left and right and left and right again, like a drunk staggering into the future. Sometimes your party and your ideology is going to win, sometimes it isn’t.

But you know what’s going to happen if Republicans do take the Senate tomorrow?

Do you know what’s going to happen if Conservatives control both houses of Congress?

Nothing.

Absolutely nothing.

Literally nothing.

That’s what will happen.

For the next two years.

Nothing."

This country has been trading the party in power back and forth for how many decades now? You seeing anything getting better?

So I say let's revisit in 2 years and see if his predictions come true. Will Republicans indeed pass through the House and Senate a law to repeal the ACA so the President can veto it and they can scream about being blocked even though they will probably not offer up their own solution to fix healthcare? Will they start an impeachment process? How will they do working on a balanced budget, job creations, improving the economy, energy policy, infrastructure, tax reform, banking reform, immigration, and the Middle East/foreign policy?

Just as if Democrats held control, I expect there to be no progress on anything whatsoever. I plan to get used to more bloviating, partisan melodrama and rhetoric, all while the country goes down the toilet more. We aren't doing anything to pull ourselves up out of this mess so nothing will change.

I'm focusing my efforts on what I can do locally. Helping my fellow area businesses, growing our tourism efforts, supporting our local nonprofits who serve so many in need, and continuing to provide a place for the community to have a voice. You wanna help? The more the merrier and we almost always have fun doing what we do! :)

You don't have to be a Chamber member to volunteer, hell you don't even have to go to Chamber functions to help. Shop local, send your friends to your favorite places, write reviews for the places you go - put them on Google +, Yelp, TripAdvisor, here on MMT, the business' Facebook page (if they have their page set up for reviews to be posted, ours isn't b/c of the category it falls under, so we can only have reviews/testimonials put on our Google + page, or on a thread here), download our 285 Tourism mobile app and use it (did you know it has exclusive coupons you won't find anywhere else? You'll find events, you can upload pictures, check in to places, etc and all that helps the corridor businesses), and volunteer and/or donate at a local nonprofit - they always need help. Empty Bowls is today and tomorrow at Mountain Resource Center - $25 gets you all you can eat delicious soup donated by local restaurants (Brooks Place Tavern's Chipotle Pumpkin Soup last year was to die for) and you help them feed the hungry in our community. Evergreen Christian Outreach is in serious need of non-perishables . Peaceworks, Inc had a huge budget shortfall a couple of months ago when the state's financial system was changed and they couldn't pay grants awarded out to nonprofits for several months making it impossible for Peaceworks, and many other nonprofits, to process payroll or keep their facilities running. They are still trying to catch up - send them an extra $10 if you can.

There's so many ways to help your community that don't involve politics. Let's focus on what we can do to make things better for those in our community. It feels good to give.

"FIND THAT MESSAGE: Obama’s policies were on the ballot — we have it on good authority (Obama’s). That includes “comprehensive immigration reform,” as embodied in the Chuck Schumer’s Senate “Gang of 8″ legalization + immigration increase bill. So how did it do? Let’s see:

Sen. Mark Pryor of Arkansas voted for the Gang of 8 bill. He’s GONE.

Sen. Kay Hagan of North Carolina voted for the Gang of 8 bill. GONE.

Sen. Mark Udall of Colorado voted for the Gang of 8 bill. GONE

Sen. Mark Begich of Alaska voted for the Gang of 8 bill. Almost certainly GONE

Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana voted for the Gang of 8 bill. She will probably be GONE after a January runoff."...

Is anyone who voted For the gang of 8 bill still there? Seriously your logic is flawed.

Okay, if this cat can play with something he should be wanting to eat, and this squirrel can be this brave and feisty, surely Republicans and Democrats can get along...right?!

Nice video!

Well, that's obviously a well fed cat. If it happened out in the wild, I think things would of been different.

Not that I'm making a political point other than it's a fat cat. :)

I'm somehow reminded of an inappropriate joke; what did John Wayne Gacey say to Pee Wee Herman? "Don't play with your food..."

I don't see any evidence that the two parties are going to play nice but I'm hopeful the Republicans can return the favor from the last 6 years of Democrat control by jamming legislation down the Dems gullets just like Obamacare was forced upon the entire nation. it will be nice to watch the Dems squirm and not be able to do anything about it.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
