The Substance of Obama's Decree

21 Nov 2014 18:25 #1 by Rick
It think it would be interesting to discuss the actual substance of what this new immigration policy will consist of and the consequences positive or negative.

Here's one to start... if you just crossed the border a month ago and are living in your friend's basement, how hard would it be to convince the government that you've actually been here for 5 years and are eligible to get a SS card and legally work here?

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

First of all, it wasn't a "decree". These were executive actions. If the House were to do their jobs and pass the bi-partisan bill the Senate already passed on immigration reform, the executive actions would be moot because the President has already indicated he would sign it in which case his executive actions would be null.

Second, you probably need to read the full text of the executive actions, themselves, if you haven't already. The "decree", as you call it, merely delays deportation of illegals in this country if, and/or until, a more permanent law can be passed.

As far as "how hard it would be", didn't you just say in another thread, and I quote:

Now, tell me how it's impossible to secure it with all the technology we have today.

So, you tell me - how hard would it be with all the technology we have today?

Your point?

I wouldn't be crossing the border a month ago. I already live here, have my own home, and was born and raised in the U.S. I also already have a SS card and have been retired for some time now.

The question you ask is, as so many questions in these forums are, unanswerable, and you know it. That's why I asked you the question I did. You didn't answer that one either.

Where in the Constitution does it say that the job of the House is to meekly pass bills passed by the Senate? I thought that somewhere in there was the principle of balance of power, which to me means that the job of the House is NOT to just meekly follow whatever the Senate does.

I would love to read the full text of the latest executive action on immigration, exactly as signed. I have not found it. Would you please provide a link?

The House could at least bring the bill passed by the Senate to the House floor. That's something that has not happened. If the House has changes they'd like to see included in the bill, shouldn't it then go to conference committee? I didn't mean to imply that the House should just meekly follow whatever the Senate does.

Best I can do on the text - at least at this point in time: blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2014/11/20/text-o...-immigration-action/

You know as well as I do the question being asked has no viable answer. The only response in a situation like that is to respond as I did - with a question of my own. I will not play anyone's game when it comes to inane questions. Conforming to mind games isn't something I choose to do.

And, if you're so intent on getting answers to the question, how do YOU respond while giving prudent thought or rebuttal or support to the point clearly being made?

LOL, wow, lets try this again: if a NON-CITIZEN crossed the border a month ago and is living in his/her friend's basement, how hard would it be to convince the government that they've actually been here for 5 years and are eligible to get a SS card and legally work here?

You like to talk a lot about feelings and perspectives Z... in THIS thread I'd like to talk about the facts of what Obama has just done... how it will be enforced, who gets to stay, what getting a SS# will mean, how it may or may not effect our own poor, etc.. I'm not trying to trick you into making a statement you may regret, I'm just wanting to talk about how this will all play out.

So is there anything wrong with the question I posed... is it not relevant?

No, I don't think it is, in fact, relevant. Again, read the text of the executive action. The facts of what Obama has done are as outlined in the article to which I provided a link in a previous post.
