"The Fiery Underground Oil Pit Eating L.A.
Formless and ancient things from the depths of our planet move beneath Los Angeles, unexpectedly setting fire to sidewalks and burning whole businesses to the ground. Welcome to urban life atop a still-active oil field.
Sliding around beneath the surface of Los Angeles is something dark, primordial, and without form. It seeps up into the city from below, through even the smallest cracks and drains. Infernal, it can cause fires and explosions; toxic, it can debilitate, poison, and kill."
Blazer Bob: that's what the Campfire is for! Wicked cool story, thanks. I'm never moving to LA!
On a fun note, did you know that we have a cthulhu emoticon?

I am guessing the dirt is worth more than oil. This is an interesting read on insanely expensive houses they are building there. Can you imagine a house with a 40 car underground garage or its own operating room.
"Work is already underway in Bel Air on a megacompound that will include the largest single-family house in *LA County (not the US!). The enormous project, at the dead-end of Airole Way above the Bel-Air Hotel, comes from megamansion developer Nile Niami, and is slated to total 85,000 square feet with a 70,000-square-foot main house. (That'll pretty handily beat out a 60,000-square-foot house also in Bel Air that's now finishing up construction.) The LA Business Journal qualifies that building officials think only 55,000 square feet will be "livable" space, i.e., actual living quarters."...

Got it. Thanks . I seriously considered putting it in the book section because if the writer has not tried his hand at fiction it should be in his future.
I just took a look and understand my confusion. Hodge Podge is contained in the "...".
THE CAMPFIRE
Sit with friends around the campfire. Talk with your neighbors about local interests and issues. Breaking local news topics and photos. Local questions and more... RATING: PG
Yes, I see the confusion as the emphasis is on local news and interests in the Campfire, but we've historically had "other" news in there as well that isn't necessarily political but merely of personal interest to a community member. It's a gray area and honestly this story fits in either place, as oil and gas as a topic can become political pretty quickly - it all depends upon the journey and evolution of the discussion.
In putting this in the Courthouse, would you want it to flow towards the political end of the spectrum on this topic, or would you rather have it in the Campfire and subtly push it toward a lifestyle, historical, or environmental type of discussion? That's the reason that we have different forums for different topics - not only to help keep everything organized, but also to help focus the discussion - not because we are "on-topic nazis", but because it helps members and guests know what to expect in what they may read in that forum, and how to reply to topics in those forums. Though we minimize moving discussions from one forum to another (it's not always moving things that get heated to the Ring), if a topic seems obviously better suited for another forum, we will move them.
Does that make sense?

I click recent posts and it shows topics that have had posts since my last look. I look at the topic title and pay no attention to the forum it is in.
In this case I think there is a lot more humor than politics involved. The fun house might have been a good fit.

I don't see that one in the box. Where on this vast virtual space might one find that, and other, emoticons that are perhaps less popular than the ones which appear by default when one replies to a topic?
If there are any that you don't see that you would like added, please let us know via PM or email, or by posting on that thread. They do need to be labeled as free to re-use, ie not have any copyright restrictions on them is all.
We try to rotate them out on a regular basis so we keep it fresh and introduce you to new ones you may not know we've had. But, if there are any you'd like to request to add to the Board code box so they display for posting, we are always open to suggestion!
