This week Republicans in the statehouse are trying to repeal the laws passed last year in reaction to Newton and the Aurora Theater shootings.
1) All gun sales must go through a background check, even between private parties, unless the gun is older than 25 years.
2) $10 fee on all background checks to fund the insta-check CBI system.
3) And the ban on magazines larger than 15 rounds.
Think they have any chance of repealing any of these laws? Personally I doubt it. I would most like the magazine ban to be repealed since it is nearly impossible to enforce.
Hopefully a compromise could be worked out, keep only the first two.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
Not a chance. The Democrats in the Senate will figure that their job is to be a brick wall, and they'll fight against whatever the Republicans come up with.
"Whatever you are, be a good one." ~ Abraham Lincoln
Not so sure on that, particularly with regards to the magazine limit. Hickenlooper himself apologized for signing that one and admitted he did so wholly ignorant of the issues the legislation supposedly addressed when he talked to the sheriffs.
Right now, today, you can legally under the law purchase a "repair" kit which can be fitted together into a brand spanking new 30 round magazine in under a minute. The law makes no one safer, reduces the number of standard capacity magazines in the State not a whit and no one has yet been arrested or prosecuted for violating it. The law is, for all intents and purposes, utterly useless and so there is no logical reason for retaining it. When it is so easy to make a mockery of the law, even while following it to the letter, there really is no useful purpose served by having the law at all; even your run of the mill Democrat is smart enough to figure that out without much help.
Background check? I have nothing to hide and I would like to know that if I were to sell a weapon to someone outside my inner circle that the individual can also pass the minimal standards established by the State of Colorado. How often do I sell firearms to people I don't know as well as my blood relatives? Almost never.
Chip in extra money to cover the cost of the investigations? HOT HAIRY HORSE APPLES! We already pay enough taxes, let the currently administration of the State of Colorado figure out how to use the copious funds they already have gathered through taxes to allow the State to pay for investigations!
"High capacity" magazines? Please, as previously pointed out, there are a multitude of sources for 30 round and higher capacity magazines. If someone is lucky enough to be attending the Big Sandy Machine Gun Shoot in March please post an after travel report and confirm that nearly anything you want is there to be had for the right price.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus
The rural Dems never supported the legislation the first time. It comes down to whether urban/closet commie Dems have enough votes. If not, the Governor gets a chance to undo some or prove beyond doubt what a liar he is.
They did indeed crash and burn in the House as was expected. They passed the Senate committee and move on to appropriations. Hopefully they'll make it to the floor via the Senate.
Unfortunately the House had a nice bill to extend the "Make My Day" law to one's business and that was also postponed indefinitely.
