Western Conservative Summit Bars Log Cabin Republicans

:??? Just when you think the GOP is catching up with America, you find out John Andrew's big convention refuses to let Log Cabin Republicans speak or have an organized presence at WCC.
Bad move and I hope it bites John Andrew in the butt. Think any of the invited Republican primary candidates want to be linked with an event that the media will describe as a hate group?

I expect to hear of a lot of cancellations soon. Last year I attended and it was a good way to hear candidates without teleprompters. Think I will skip it this year.

Also thought I would give some applause to the Log Cabin Republicans. Takes strong character to join an organization that rejects many of your ideas. I got to hear their chairman as the GOP delegate convention last year and he received a lot of applause after speaking to the group.

Well said. The Colorado GOP seems to delight in shooting themselves in the foot. It would be great is some other conservative organization did a similar event and welcomed the Log Cabin Republicans with open arms.

Bad enough we have to deal with Democrats and other "progressives" trying to make hay on this issue, we have to deal with so-called conservatives doing it too?

The Western Conservative Summit is put on by the Colorado Christian University. One of the explicit terms that any group hoping to sponsor or advertise for the WCS is that they cannot oppose any of the official platform of the Republican Party. In Section 6 of that platform, entitled "Renewing American Values", in fact, the very first item, one will find "Preserving and Protecting Traditional Marriage" which is not supported by the Log Cabin Republicans group, and is instead directly opposed by that group.

On top of this, it is the Colorado Christian University that hosts the summit and whether everyone agrees with it or not, preserving and protecting traditional marriage is a core value of the Colorado Christian University. John Andrews made sure to make it absolutely clear that the Log Cabin Republicans were more than welcome at the conference, more than welcome to participate in the workshops and other events during which they would have just as much input as anyone else, but the agenda of the LCR with regards to same sex marriage precluded that group from sponsoring or advertising at the event.

Furthermore, I am very disappointed with the LCR organization. They submitted an application and a payment online to have an exhibit table. Their application was not approved and the money, which is essentially the down payment, was refunded because their application was not approved. That is not being "disinvited". I expect the Democrats and other "progressives" to intentionally misrepresent actions of Republicans, but to see it being done by other Republicans is more than disheartening.

By the time the conventions are held for the 2016 elections perhaps "preserving and protecting traditional marriage" will no longer be the official policy of the Republican Party as a result of input and lobbying from LCR and other groups within the party, but for right now it is. I wouldn't expect the organizing entity of this summit to agree to let a group of Republicans set up a booth to promote making the rich pay their fair share and single payer health care either.

Hopefully the Colorado GOP will distance themselves from the WCS, but with their new leader Steve House, I think they will amp up the social conservatism and guarantee that Colorado remain a Democratic state for the near future. :coflag:

I guess when you're all out of change then hope is all you have left to fall back on...

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Cool. One party Democratic rule like Detroit has!!!

Per the Denver Post this morning, looks like Steve House, new state GOP chairman is going to offer a seat at their table for the Log Cabin Republicans. I am impressed social conservative Steve is doing this.
John Andrews? Still attacking the Log Cabin Republicans. :???
