EDITORIAL: PERA boss gets another lavish raise for tepid performance
By: The Gazette editorial board December 22, 2016 Updated: December 22, 2016 at 5:12 pm

A quick summary, ""Smith could be making nearly $900,000 in 2018 with his salary and total bonuses," explains a story by Peter Marcus in Colorado Politics.com."

Perhaps, Colorado needs to drain the local swamp.

So many swamps. So little time.

Many executives in the insurance or pension business make more than that. You have a whole lot of swamps to examine. Go for it.

Blazer Bob: I agree,"so many swamps....". PERA is the swamp closest to home, therefore it is my starting point. To further the analogy, the alligators in the swamp, (need for more tax dollars to support PERA) will grow larger if the swamp is not contained.
Hillfarmer: The "swamp" of insurance executive pay is the province of the shareholders of a particular company, Insurance companies are publicly held. As a taxpayer I am forced to support PERA, I cannot divest myself of that responsibility as i can of publicly traded shares.

It's always a good thing to regularly examine business practices and try to improve them. Government employees need to be receiving retirement benefits that rival those of the private sector so those jobs are attractive and competitive, and certainly those who run the PERA programs need to be compensated fairly, not outlandishly (just like private sector leaders - I think the income disparity is a huge problem in this country).

Do you have any ideas for how to support a review, or how to go about learning more of what we regular citizens can do ramage? Oh, did you have a link for your OP too? So people can read more from that source (and we stay in compliance for Fair Use). Thanks!

Thank you, Science Chick. Acronyms can stand for many different entities, for example, MS could be manuscript, Multiple Sclerosis, Mitral Stenosis, Master of Science, to name but a few.
With regard to my original post, I thought that indicating it was an editorial in the Gazette in the December 22, 2016 issue was sufficient. With that information it is easily found in the library or on the internet. I apologize by using the familiar "Gazette" assuming that it is well known in the area as being the Colorado Springs Gazette. I surmise that most would also identify the "Post" as the Denver Post. Not an excuse on my part, simply an explanation.
