Denver Post had a piece this weekend about the difficulties that Saudi Arabia is having getting their tourism industry off the ground. The Kingdom knows the oil will eventually run out and has invested millions into developing other industries, but it seems to be having big issues convincing tourists to come and private industry to invest in resorts when no tourists are here. More problems? Saudi Arabia is much more strict about alcohol and other typical resort activities like women tanning. So most tourists from abroad and the kingdom itself visits the nearby Gulf States on vacation. Would you want to visit Saudi Arabia? I wouldn't mind visiting Mecca but I don't think they want heretics visiting their holy sites.
