Trump voter fraud commission

They aren't subject to our laws? I am so not okay with that. This commission was set up by Executive Order, making its existence solely based on one branch of the federal government, so why should it be exempt from federal laws? And protecting sensitive private information is critical in this day and age of identity theft, isn't it a paramount responsibility of this commission to create and implement a plan to safeguard said data of the citizens of the U.S.?

So here's a question I'd like to pose, following a fun message conversation with ZHawke: how do you feel about a voter registration database such as the one attempted to be collected and are you also okay with a similar federal gun ownership database? If only one and not the other, why? Both are constitutionally protected rights, and both voting and gun ownership have faced criticism of fraud/people partaking of those rights illegally, and both have opponents claiming their rights would be infringed if implemented.

From Jim Wright, Stonekettle Station :

An outfit called the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), sued the Trump Administration in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia earlier this month, demanding Trump's voter fraud commission be restricted from collecting state voter registration data.

The commission intends to assemble a massive database of personal information, every registered voter in the United States. That database would almost immediately become the target of hundreds of agencies, governmental, commercial, and malicious. The information contained in the database would be of enormous value to spammers alone. The E-government Act requires the commission to show how that information will be protected and to make that plan available to the public.

The Commission, of course, has not done any of this.

Yesterday, attorneys for Trump's commission argued in court that the Commission doesn't have to follow these federal laws.

Doesn't have to follow federal law.

Because the Commission isn't a FEDERAL agency.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
