A gigantic FUBAR, as you say homeagain.

Trump ready for US shutdown to last 'for years'
BBC

US President Donald Trump has said he is prepared for a partial shutdown of the US government - now entering its third week - to last years.

After meeting top Democrats, he also said he could declare a national emergency to bypass Congress and build a US-Mexico border wall.

Mr Trump insisted he would not sign any bill without wall funding, which Democrats adamantly oppose.

Around 800,000 federal workers have been without pay since 22 December.

President Trump confirmed to reporters in the Rose Garden that he told Democratic leaders the government shutdown could last for months or even years.

What an utterly idiotic thing for him to say at this time. He's trying to sound all tough, like he's driving a hard negotiation, but he's coming across as not giving a shit about the workers. He clearly has no clue how the public will turn on him if this drags out much longer - people don't keep working for no pay because they can't. They have families to feed and mortgages to pay. Or, as Nate Lerner said:

I think this below is more likely a case of not paying attention to details and the optics of it rather than being a case of screwing the little guys and padding the rich, but this news hits at the worst time for Trump and shows why he's so bad at managing his responsibilities.

While federal workers go without pay, senior Trump administration officials are poised to get $10,000 raises

January 4 at 5:16 PM

The pay raises for Cabinet secretaries, deputy secretaries, top administrators and even Vice President Pence are scheduled to go into effect beginning Jan. 5 without legislation to stop them, according to documents issued by the Office of Personnel Management and experts in federal pay.

The raises appear to be an unintended consequence of the shutdown: When lawmakers failed to pass bills Dec. 21 to fund multiple federal agencies, they allowed an existing pay freeze to lapse.

Trump offered no raise to rank-and-file civil servants for 2019, prompting an outcry from Democrats and federal employee unions. Republicans offered to scrap the executive pay raise in return for agreeing to a 1.9 percent raise for civil servants. But those negotiations got stuck in a conference committee before the shutdown.

Why is it that detractors of President Trump feel that" f**ked", motherf**ker" are necessary in a political discourse? In the above quote from Nate Lerner we are told that Mr. Trump has f**ked himself, a U.S. Congressperson, Rashida Tlaib, says "impeach the motherf**ked".
For what purpose?

I would guess for some that they are upset and feel the need to use strong language to express their level of unhappiness. For others, it's simply every day use and no big deal, or they are trying to get shock value out of it, knowing it will cause a stir.

I'm genuinely curious, what do you think about this shutdown is a good thing?

I'm guessing that people are not going to patiently sit by as they run out of money for food, electricity, mortgages, and gasoline. How about you? Imagine what this will do to our economy. And not getting their tax refunds back, that'll make 'em happy and feeling really good about this wall which less than 50% of the public is in favor of. Shutting down our government hurts us all, it's our largest employer, our economy depends upon it functioning, just a few veterans and the elderly depend on health care and financial assistance to survive, and our security is critical to it being fully operational. Or should we let TSA and Border Agents eventually leave their jobs to find something else so they can eat? Perhaps it's just fine that FBI agents will stop investigating crimes and let criminals do what they want without consequence, there can't possibly be any negative ramifications of that, right?
:sarcasm:
I'm seeing rumors that he's going to take some sort of deal and tell McConnell to pass whatever they have on Monday so this below is likely all moot (other than the deaths in the national parks, which are a tragedy). We shall see how this shakes out, but the point being that our White House doesn't seem to understand how government works at all or what exactly it's responsible for and they are in way over their heads. Trump is not in charge of his own business where he can play hard-ball like he's used to, politics is about negotiation and compromise.

Millions face delayed tax refunds, cuts to food stamps as White House scrambles to deal with shutdown’s consequences
By Damian Paletta and Erica Werner
January 4 at 6:17 PM

Food stamps for 38 million low-income Americans would face severe reductions and more than $140 billion in tax refunds are at risk of being frozen or delayed if the government shutdown stretches into February, widespread disruptions that threaten to hurt the economy.

The Trump administration, which had not anticipated a long-term shutdown, recognized only this week the breadth of the potential impact, several senior administration officials said. The officials said they were focused now on understanding the scope of the consequences and determining whether there is anything they can do to intervene.

“People in this country will go hungry,” said Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro (D-Conn.). “It’s simple. They go hungry. . . . These are working people. We’re not talking about people who are dogging it.”

The disruption would hurt not only the families that receive the assistance but also grocers and other retailers where the money is spent.

Treasury Department officials, meanwhile, are trying to determine what to do with the flood of requests for tax refunds that will come in next month.

FBIAA Pres. @tfoconnor83 - “FBIAA members and others are currently working without pay or paid leave because of a fourth government shutdown in five years. The FBIAA calls on elected officials to work together to end the shutdown and restore Agents’ pay.” (Statement attached.)

National parks struggle to stay open, safe during shutdown

Three people have died in national parks since start of government shutdown

Thank you for making my point homeagain.
The awe of nature does not need the government to exist. Do you need nature to have the stamp of approval from government before you can witness it.
Walk outside.
