Will You Be Watching Tonight's Debate?

19 Feb 2020 17:49 - 19 Feb 2020 17:50 #1 by Rick
Tonight we watch the fireworks between the socialist who has accomplished nothing in his life other than getting a government check, vs the billionaire who has contempt for pretty much anyone who isn't like him. What about the rest of the field you say? They are pretty much irrelevant at this point and can only hope to get the VP invite from one of the two old white male Democrat champions.

I'll be watching, will you?

Yes, I'll be watching from the introduction of the candidates. Will they walk onto the stage as before or be introduced at their podiums? Will all the candidates have boxes to stand on, we shall see?
It is telling that Mike Bloomberg let Trump get under his skin by calling him mini-mike. Instead of taking the high road, he chose to name calling. There is no shame in being short, but Bloomberg evidently has the "short person syndrome" but that being said, Napoleon, Hitler (oops, not calling anyone a Nazi) Churchill, and many others seemed to rise to the top regardless of your opinions of their political positions.

Did someone on this website say that Mike Bloomberg would be a fantastic debater? They should watch Warren clean his clock.

Everytime NBC throws a softball to Bloomberg it is intercepted by the others before he even gets to swing

President Trump was right, Mini Mike is a horrible debater. He just turtled up.

I really enjoyed the debate this time, and my wife who usually gives up after fifteen minutes watched an hour of it. It should have been titled "Knives Out". Instead of vague promises to buy votes by increasing debt and taxes, they actually went after each other's records and attacked spending plans that were outrageous. Amy K. and Elizabeth W. really dominated here, leaving the old men, Biden and Bloomberg, in the dust.

I think it was great that that debate got the highest rating of any Dem debate, ever. That means 20 million plus watched that train wreck and better understand what they will have to chose from. Have you ever been to one of those nasty buffets about an hour before close and everything looks soggy, wilted, and greasy? That's what it looked like to me and all the leftist analysts seemed to feel the same way.

Steven Hayward writing in powlineblog.com 2/21/20, proposes an interesting different opinion as to what he saw regarding Bloomberg, I quote:
"He did plant two main points. First, no one else on that stage can beat Trump. Second, the party’s embrace of socialism is a loser. Good for him. Pin this thought.

Despite the body blow he took over his #MeToo and stop-and-frisk problems, the field didn’t much attack him on his most vulnerable point, namely, for buying his way onto the debate stage. Instead they attacked him for being a successful billionaire, because envy and resentment of the rich is now the central organizing principle (along with racism) of the Democratic Party. If Tom Steyer ever threatened to rise seriously in the polls they’d say that about him too. The fact that they gave Steyer a pass shows that they don’t take him seriously but fear Bloomberg."
The whole column is worth a bit of time.

I think Trump is easily beatable. America is tired of his theatrics, so all the Democrats had to do was offer a quality moderate candidate, but Comrade Bernie is leading the pack. He will lose them so many states, especially once the health insurance companies and other corporations he wants to destroy start going after him.

Some of my hard lefty friends do realize this and are supporting the more moderate choices despite them supporting Medicaid For All.

I disagree. People care a lot more about their wallets than who Trump offends of a daily basis. The only way a Dem could win would be to come up with some kind of economic plan that has some sort of relationship with reality and common sense. Bernie says he's going to create 20 million new "green" energy jobs without explaining where all these new green consumers are going to come from that would pay for all these new jobs. Or maybe he thinks the government can just create these new jobs and taxpayers will gladly pay that bill.
