A MODEST PROPOSAL

A MODEST PROPOSAL was created by ramage
In a short time we have learned about pick-up and drop off as evidenced by grocery stores, and of course liquor and pot stores.
I would like to propose that the Library follow suit. The current system allows a patron the go online and reserve a book. The library notifies that individual when the book becomes available. Simply add a specific time widow (for example 2 hrs) in which a patron could go to the library and pick up one's reserved book/books. It would also allow drop-off of books that have been read and are sitting in one's home. This would allow these returned books back into circulation. This can be done with no human interaction.(albeit, however unfortunate).
As of now, I have 4 library books that have been read that could go back into circulation and I have 2 books sitting on the library's hold shelf since the closure.
Also it would allow librarians to go back to work.

First off....I'm elated to see that others STILL need the tactile feel of a book in your hand...turning
physical pages and putting a book marker into the fold. I think it is a Fabulous idea....BUT, I don't think the "essential employees" is designated (I tend to disagree with that)......perhaps in two or three weeks,we can get there.....I know our community had to pass an initiative (last year)formore $$$$because hours were limited and days were reduced.

We just lost a LARGE business (Russell Stovers choc.) and THAT has really brought everything
into fine focus...this was before the outbreak.....we are a relative small rural community and
they are trying to find $$$$ for small business and unemployed populace.

Sounds feasible to me. Government workers need jobs too. A good way to minimize contact, but let the community still access the shelves.

For some, the pot or liquor is "essential", for me it is the library. Each to his own, unfortunately the government has decided to pick winners and losers.

While St. Lucie County Library buildings remain closed to the public, Library staff will call patrons to pick up items they've placed on hold through a curbside pickup service. Before coming to the library, you must place a hold on an item with a St. Lucie County Library card and you must have received a call from Library staff letting you know it's available for pickup. Holds on items can be placed through the online catalog or by calling 772-871-5470 from 9 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday.
