What if the Senate had voted guilty on the articles of impeachment on Feb 5th? President Trump is out of office and the virus hits the proverbial fan, or does it?
One scenario: Pence would be President, the Vice-Presidency is now open. Who would Pence nominate for the Vice-Presidency? ( This is similar to the route that Gerald Ford had to the White House, i.e. nominated by Nixon to fill the VP slot, then Nixon resigned).
The constitution provides only for the orderly succession for the Presidency. As I pointed out Gerald Ford became VP when Spiro Agnew resigned. Ford was nominated and confirmed by congress. When Nixon resigned Ford then nominated Nelson Rockefeller for the VP and he was confirmed by both houses of congress.
