That, I have to tell you Blazer Bob, somewhat irks me. I am not one of the left-wing militant, socialist Bernie Bros who wants to run this country into the ground with unrealistic, extreme, fiscally irresponsible policies. I've never called myself "woke," I don't share #MeToo mob takedowns, and I sure as hell don't participate in cancel culture.
My post was denouncing those who do such things (all too often blue check Twitter activists) in case you couldn't tell with all the negative adjectives I used in it.
As for the problem, I think a lot of it comes down to training and having proper procedures in place. Just like any profession, there are mostly good and a few bad people. You can't change people's personal beliefs, but you can hold them to standard procedures and make sure their training ensures they understand those procedures. Annual reviews should bring to light any problems following those procedures so they can be redirected or held accountable for violations of procedures.
I was quite happy at what Sheriff Shrader posted when this broke out. Not every department is run as professionally, and how to get all departments across the country up to adequate standards is a problem I don't know how to address. Anyone have any ideas on that?
In this month's issue of Behind the Badge, Sheriff Shrader shares how George Floyd's death and the climate for change is an opportunity for introspection and an internal review of our practices, policies, and procedures.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

This post reminds me why I've always liked you SC. Not because this is a post I agree with, and the one before this, but because you are logical and don't just run with the herd, even if what you believe may be somewhat in line with people you can't stand, like Trump. You, like many of my liberal friends know what would happen if police departments were defunded and even partially dismantled. As someone who fears Democrat rule, part of me is enjoying this crazy talk because I know it will hurt democrat chances in November, but I'd still rather have Biden as president than I would having police forces gutted and be forced to fortify my city home and arm my family members. This week I'm putting wifi cameras and security lights around my house in case Polis decides to join crazy town. My wife and I already have concealed carry permits but we haven't been using them, but I'm getting close.
SC I believe you are in the majority of left leaners who understand the chaos, lawlessness, and even increased murders that would result from such reckless actions. I hate what those cops did to George Floyd and I think I'm in the majority of conservatives who feel sickened by the disregard for human decency and our police departments should immediately clean house and get rid of officers who are unfit for the job. Unfortunately, like bad teachers, it's difficult to do when unions protect them (but that's another rant for later).
Bottom line is that I think the majority of logical Americans agree that we need local protection and we will quickly fall if that protection is ever taken away for the sake of making the minority of dumbasses happy. I'm sure we will continue to disagree on most topics, but I'm glad we can agree on this one.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
Any politician that supports defunding the police should forego law enforcement protection unless they pay directly from for themselves. Anything less is hypocritical.
Personally I am not a fan of the police but I am worried this will backfire. The threat of police does keep people in line. No police and you will see more abuse, more assaults and more murders.
