With the GOP gaining seats and likely holding the Senate, it looks to me like Trump may have lost some appeal among Republican voters. They either just couldn't vote for him, but did vote for the rest of the Republicans or they might even convinced themselves that Biden would be moderate and they voted for the former VP.
History? I wonder if any former VP in American history became POTUS years after serving as VP?
It is rare enough that VP's are elected to be President after serving.
