A former Israeli space security chief has sent eyebrows shooting heavenward by saying that earthlings have been in contact with extraterrestrials from a "galactic federation."
"The Unidentified Flying Objects have asked not to publish that they are here, humanity is not ready yet," Haim Eshed, former head of Israel's Defense Ministry's space directorate, told Israel's Yediot Aharonot newspaper. The interview in Hebrew ran on Friday, and gained traction after parts were published in English by the Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.
A respected professor and retired general, Eshed said the aliens were equally curious about humanity and were seeking to understand "the fabric of the universe."
Just my personal view....I think it is extremely egotistical that WE think we are the ONLY intelligent beings
in the entire universe....and beyond,since it has recently been proven there is MORE THAN one universe.
Carl Sagan addressed this question in the late 70's, and I think he did a good job explaining why it would be highly unlikely that mature civilizations would ever meet each other. First, the distances are so extreme. You pretty much need some "magical" way of crossing space to reach another inhabitable planet. The other factor? Time. Humans have been on this planet less than one percent of it's existence so if another race had stopped by it is most likely they would have seen a barren rock or dinosaurs instead of cities and technology.
Then again a smarter man than me, Stephen Hawking, thought it was a bad idea to transmit our location to other space civilizations. Even a well meaning race could come here with their advanced technology and destroy our economies accidentally.

You should listen to the video of the CTO of Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works talking about how we now have the ability to send ET home. I think the distances are not unconquerable.
