"Health-worker unions in Europe say thousands of their members refuse to take one of the three Covid-19 vaccines available in the region because of concerns over efficacy and reports of side effects, the latest setback for the continent’s slow vaccine rollout.
Organizations representing health professionals across Europe said this week that doctors and nurses shouldn’t be forced to take the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca PLC because it was shown to offer less robust protection against Covid-19 than the other two currently authorized in the European Union..."
This demand to pick and choose one's vaccine makes me more skeptical about the seriousness of this virus. Then we get this type of information.
“Patients admitted to hospital in Ontario with COVID-19 had a 3.5 times greater risk of death, 1.5 times greater use of the ICU, and 1.5 times longer hospital stays than patients admitted with influenza,” he said in a journal news release.
Those are interesting numbers. Covid patients are only 1.5 times as likely to be in ICU as regular flu patients? That seems unimpressive. (One obvious question is how likely patients are to be hospitalized in the first place.) As for the death rate, we don’t know the age distributions of the flu and covid patients. Those dying of covid (or with covid, in many cases) are overwhelmingly old. In my state, the median age is 83, well in excess of life expectancy. Not only that, the old people who die from (or with) covid almost always had pre-existing co-morbidities. Were the hospital patients who died from the flu as old and sick as those who died from covid? An important question which this article, at least, does not answer.
Still, taking UPI’s headline at face value, if covid-19 is really only 3.5 times as lethal as an average flu bug, the damage we have done to our small businesses, to our mental and physical health, and above all to the lives of our young people is a travesty.
On the vaccine topic, does anyone think it’s good precedent to allow the government to mandate medical procedures as a prerequisite for joining society? I’m not really concerned that this vaccine is any more or less dangerous than other vaccines, but banning people from travel seems to be only the first step. It just seems a bridge too far in a supposedly free society.

The link does not work (probably a firewall)......BOLDED.....No, as a short answer. THIS present paradigm
is a human guinea pig trial.....I want the option of a CHOICE, given the newest and uniqueness of the virus.
IF I were to opt for it (THAT is a big if)......I would want the BEST coverage in ONE DOSE....mixing products
I am unsure about, sounds like throwing the dice on side effects. As we move forward into summer I would want to review the findings from previous patients/products.....that would then give me an understanding of
what direction I should go.

This is also my position. That said, I have had the vaccination because I believe that Harris/Biden will require proof of vaccination in order to board an airplane. The mechanism is already in place, TSA. They will look at your ID and at the same time your proof of vaccination. Currently NY, NJ and other states require a negative Covid test within 3 days of flying into their states. Driving or taking a train, no so. Probably because they (those in power) do not a mechanism in place to do such checking.
I am surprised they haven't figured out a way to download vaccine information to passports. Maybe in the next few months. Put a stamp in your book and update the e-files?
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
Fred,
A logistical nightmare. Before getting a "stamp" one would have to show proof of vaccination, doubt that the Feds would accept the honor system, the vaccination card can be downloaded and filled in without difficulty. As of today, it is the country that is being entered that may or may not require proof of vaccination. Denmark is trying to establish a digital passport that will allow travelers to avoid quarantine if they have a vaccination.
The vaccination is not 100% effective as you know. One can still get a Covid infection even if vaccinated. Albeit, the "experts" tell us that it is a milder infection; but the issue is infecting other people. Just like the flu.
My take: The powers that be will not want to lose their cache by dropping the mask mandate and the social distancing mandate. They would not want to indicate that the approach that DeSantis took in FL was correct. Life is normal in FL, if you want to wear and mask and social distance go right ahead. My daughter, lives in South FL and says that it is just like when we lived there.
Below is the comment of a friend from Philly, also has a home in South FL.
This story is a very true. I got to Vero on Jan8 and got my first shot Jan 14. Second one Feb 4. Everything went very smooth in Indian River County. Everyone I know has gotten one shot and have appointments for the second.
Meanwhile PA is still trying to get it setup.
It’s a mess and the Acting Sec of Health is redoing the whole system . You may have heard, old previous Sec of Health is now the Ass’t HHS Director! Was this a promotion for doing such a bad job in PA? OR do think it’s because she is a transgender person and she fits the Dems narrative on diversity???
She is the highest ranking physician in HHS and in charge of the Covid national response.
Guess it’s better to have diversity than competence!!!
