Colorado Democrats banned capital punishment last year. Should Republicans try to bring it back? Or will Colorado taxpayers have to pay to house him for the next fifty years?

I don't think that is the aspect of this that most people care about. Some people are going to focus on the killer and some are going to focus on the gun, like always. For these murdering monsters, I don't think any kind of punishment will ever be a deterrent.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
Would resurrection of the death penalty deter killers such as Alissa? I don't known, it is impossilble to measure. There coud be a thousand who are deterrred, but it only takes one, such as Alissa, for supporters of the removal of the death penalty to assert. that there is no deterrence.
I prefer to look at the Death Penalty as a form of retribution. He took the lives of 10 people. Of that there is no dispute. Why should he be allowed to live? I believe that the loved ones of the victims deserve closure.
After Klebold and Harris took their owm lives in the Columbline shooting, most of the mass killers suddenly find that they do not want to die and surrender. Holmes, the Aurora shooter, is an example.
It does seem weird that he surrendered so easily, after a minor leg wound. Maybe he lost his taste for violence after seeing it wasn't like a video game and people were actually dying because of him.

Interesting story about the dead Boulder police officer. After decades of success in IT, he chucked it away at 40, with kids and went to the police academy, he felt a calling. Great to read a story about police who rush in to save people after hearing stories all Summer long about how police were villains and racists.
Every group is going to have bad apples, but every group will also have heroes.
