Since the Great Depression and FDR. Should the nation provide more incentives to have children? Should we increase legal immigration? And make it easier for people from a wide variety of nations to become citizens?

I would bet that Planned Parent Hood funding is at its highest since The Great Depression.
It seems to be doing its job.

Point well taken.

www.all.org/learn/abortion/abortion-statistics/

61.8 million abortions in the U.S. since 1973. Roe v. Wade was adjudicated that year.

And then there is this:

These statistics include only surgical and medical abortions. Because many contraceptive measures are abortifacients (drugs that induce or cause abortions), it is important not to overlook the number of children killed by chemical abortions. Since 1965, an average of 11 million women have used abortifacient methods of birth control in the United States at any given time. Using formulas based on the way the birth control pill works, pharmacy experts project that about 14 million chemical abortions occur in the United States each year, providing a projected total of well in excess of 610 million chemical abortions between 1965 and 2009.

Lower fertility rates are climbing around the world as populations become more urban. And some say as women get more equal rights. Easy access to abortion and Plan B have clearly helped lower birth rates, but there are other trends too, like women choosing to wait to have children until their 30's and 40's.

Thanks, ramage. You just provided the perfect incentive for having an abortion.

Or, do you think the United States could have absorbed 610 million more people (making our population close to a billion by 2009)?

My personal opinion is the 2020 census was botched by the idiot who was running the country at the time. One census does not a trend make. Unfortunately, it will be 2031 before we really know if any of this is real.

I believe UR answering YES to the bolded....if that is the case, A MICRO pov is obvious...we,as a nation (not even taking into consideration ..THE WORLD) R so over extended in our resources,DEPLETED
in the most basic way. FINITE water supply,OVER usage of inadequate food production (soil is
depleted to the point of useless) homelessness is rampant, children r presently experiencing FOOD INSECURITY and abuse....(parents cannot work two or three jobs each and provide a sense of security)

The entertaining of the idea that we can ADD OVER 6 MILLION souls to this nation is absurd,at best, and
lacking in a sense of reality. JMO

As a side note, when MEN CAN TAKE A BIRTH CONTROL PILL, the abortions will go down....it is NOW
2021...is there a wide usage of male BC PILLS....NO, THERE IS WIDE USAGE OF VIAGRA.

Yours is a popular theory, but per the WSJ this morning, it appears blue states did a much better job holding onto population than expected. So unlikely the fix was in.

More census information. During the World Wars, millions of African Americans headed north to the Rust Belt to get manufacturing jobs. Now it appears they are now migrating back to the Sun Belt cities to get jobs since many of the manufacturing jobs went South or overseas. Will the Democrats start to take back the South?

The biggest surprise? That after a year of lockdowns, there should have been a baby boom. Couples had more time together with fewer distractions. One person quipped, there wasn't a baby boom because the couples had stopped shaving and showering. Or it is hard to make time for sex when the kids are at home all day and night.
