Forrest Gump, with his simple, commonsensical approach to life, often noted, “just like that” something changed. Whether it was the rain in Vietnam, his running adventure, or his Army service, “just like that” it was over.
Now after a year of mask-wearing, “just like that” it is no longer necessary per the CDC’s latest guidance. Last week the CDC suddenly reversed course with this new guidance.
"If you are fully vaccinated, you can resume activities that you did prior to the pandemic.
Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.
If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, find a vaccine."
Spoiler: He's an Ophthalmologist, with no medical background in epidemiology.
Three years ago, Dr. Joondeph was arguing that "science is never settled," that it adjusts as new observations and data come in.
"Medicine, and all branches of science, should follow the scientific method: observation of natural events, an explanation of why they occur, and modification of explanations based on new observations and data."
Brian Joondeph, M.D, is an ophthalmologist with special qualifications in retinal surgery. Why would this be a spoiler alert?
Using your logic only women who have experienced childbirth should be allowed to discuss the issues surrounding it.
If you would read his article, it is a compilation of the mask and immunity policy of the CDC during the past 14 or so months.
His is correct in stating ""science is never settled," and adjustments are made as new observations and data come in. He and I agree that Fauci and the CDC must receive these new observations at the speed of light based on their ability to diametrically change course so quickly. .
For example
"CDC Director Rochelle Walensky now claims, "We now have science that has really just evolved even in the last two weeks that demonstrates that these vaccines are safe, they are effective." As Gomer Pyle would say, “Shazam!” Just like that, the vaccines this past week, after five months of use, are suddenly safe and effective. What a coincidence!"
I have been unable to find this "science" that has evolved in the last 2 weeks.
Perhaps you can point out these for me.

It is bizarre to see for sure. I walked into a business today without a mask and the masked receptionist had panic in her eyes that quickly changed to relief as she realized the rules changed essentially overnight.

It would be a spoiler alert because it was posted as so-and-so MD has thoughts on COVID-19. Turns out, it's not his specialty. Far from it, in fact.
Nope, that's not MY logic. My logic is a medical doctor in one practice should not be considered fully knowledgeable about another medical field.
And since you mention "women who have experienced childbirth," it hit a sore spot with me. Our daughter is a Resident OB/GYN. She delivers babies, even though she has never given birth. And she leaves eye exams to doctors in that specialty. You wouldn't want a podiatrist to give you advice on your brain tumor, would you?
Again Brian Joondeph, M.D. is publishing an opinion piece he does not hold himself out to be an epidemiologist. Also I find this interesting "My logic is a medical doctor in one practice should not be considered fully knowledgeable about another medical field." this is nonsensical, any physician in any speciality in medicine that considers himself fully knowledgeable is woefully misguided or a fool. Run that statement by your daughter and tell us her opinion.
Also sorry that you have not been blessed with grandchildren from your daughter, hopefully in the future you will be.
I am sure you realize that fathers, nurses, midwives, doulas, policemen, firemen, EMT's to name but a few also deliver babies even though many of them have not given birth. can they not have opinion on third trimester abortion? A very significant step for all involved.
I would hazard that your daughter performs ocular exams of her pregnant patients if not she should find another residency. If she is sending all potential pre-eclamptic females to an ophthalmologist rather than doing a primary fundoscopic exam, she is good at triage, though the Eye Clinic will be overrun.
I would welcome an opinion on potential brain surgery from anyone, even you, Wayne. I would quickly discount the opinions that are of no value, I seriously doubt that you have not entertained the opinion of a lay person or a physician in another speciality as to particular issue, for example joint replacement. In thinking about this I realize that your primary care physician refers you to a specialist even though that PCP is in your words, not fully knowledgeable about for example , that orthopedic issue rather he golfs with the surgeon he is referring you to. Does that make you feel more comfortable?
So Wayne would disagree with having women coaches in the NFL because they never played the game at the professional level? Or shouldn't be allowed to announce the game? Sorry, I disagree. You can still form a learned opinion without a degree. Most reporters don't have degrees in the fields they cover.
