Wow! China has gone from one child only to now three children are permitted in less than 15 years time. They are worried no one will be able to work in their industries or take care of their old people. (WSJ) They are also worried they will lose political and military power. China gets away with bullying other nations because they have over a billion consumers and a huge army. What happens when they go from the largest nation to only the 5th largest? Can you fight a war when your draftees are in their 50's?
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
Much of Europe and North America are having the same issues. Children are thought of as too expensive and parents don't get enough support from local and national governments. Ironically when governments provided much less support one hundred years ago, the birthrate was much higher. China is a perfect example. China was much more poor one hundred years ago, but families had many more children.
