..."California is adopting former Donald Trump's plan to thin out the state's 33 million acres of forests with controlled burns and raking the woodland floor - after state officials essentially laughed off the former president's idea a few years ago."...

I would love to see Colorado and the Feds start a program to encourage everyone to cut down dead pines on the Western Slope for fuel wood. I know it would only make a dent but it would help in areas near towns and residences.

All that dead wood could be put to a lot of good uses... someone should tell Polis.

The devil is in the details.

For example, an area of North Park suffered heavy pine beetle infestion and destruction of the forest.
There are some craftsmen who make products out of the dead wood which is easily harvested. However in order to get to the vast majority of the dead areas, roads would have to be cut in order to bring the wood out. Now one is dealing with multiple government agencies, both state and local in order to permit the removal of the wood. It would give the Keystone Pipeline enviros a new cause.

True about road access. So many roads around our property have been closed by the forest service in recent years. But that is why I thought a fuelwood program would help clear out the stands of dead trees near residential areas that already have roads. The other concern? If the pines don't get harvested or burned, they will eventually go down in a windstorm, possibly harming people and damaging residences and closing roads.

I've built a lot of stuff out of blue pine and it looks great.
