Trump ranked fourth from worst in C-SPAN's 2021 presidential rankings

Former President Trump is the fourth lowest ranking U.S. president, according to C-SPAN's 2021 President Historians Survey.

C-SPAN's survey, first conducted in 2000, includes 142 historians, professors and other professional observers of the presidency who gave all former presidents a score from one to 10 in multiple different leadership characteristics. The results are then averaged to tabulate a score.

Trump received a score of 312, giving him a ranking of 41 and placing him above former Presidents Franklin Pierce, Andrew Johnson and James Buchanan. This is Trump's first time appearing on the list, with the last survey having been released in 2017 when his term had just begun.

I'm surprised he's 41st and not 45th.

Opinions are like a$$holes...

If honest history books are written about our current brain dead president, Trump will look like Einstein in comparison.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Yeah, but you see, the survey was of 142 historians that study, you know, history. They kind of know more about history and presidents and stuff like that than you and I know, so... I'm gonna trust their judgement rather than yours. Sorry.

They probably had "W" at the bottom too after his two terms. Let's see what the historians think twenty years later. I saw the chart and presidents constantly move up and down as a new generation judges them. I always think Kennedy gets too much credit for a less than one term chief executive. Much of his agenda wasn't accomplished until congressional expert LBJ took the reins.

Criteria that the 142 historians used to make their judgement:

Public Persuasion
Crisis Leadership
Economic Management
Moral Authority
International Relations
Administrative Skills
Relations with Congress
Vision / Setting an Agenda
Pursued Equal Justice For All
Performance Within Context of Times

That's like polling college professors in general... 96.3% would be liberal Trump haters. Historians are just biased and flawed humans like everybody else, they are not special.

Lets see what our country looks like after the next 4 years and lets look at where are enemies are as well. I don't think any historian will be able to sugar coat Biden's cluster ###k. I don't see how Biden can possibly last mentally, so historians will have to write about how "we' elected someone who was clearly losing his mind from the first day in office.

So, who is qualified to judge past Presidents? Everyone is biased and flawed, so no opinion or judgement is ever acceptable to you?

Historians spend their lives studying - wait for it - history. Yes, many are university professors, but that does not by itself disqualify them from an expert opinion in a field to which they have devoted their lives. You, and several other conservatives, think that most people cannot put aside their personal persuasions when they do their jobs.

FYI - Trump scored at the bottom in the "Moral Authority" category. I doubt anyone will contest that ranking.

You act like these historians are somehow different than any other person who voted in the last two elections. Even the Supreme Court is populated with biased people who hold ideological views that differ greatly from their peers. Doctors are biased, scientists are biased... everybody is biased. A historian who's political beliefs line up with groups like BLM would have a much different opinion than a historian who's political ideology lines up with what Trump ran on. There are no unbiased people in any occupation unles they have zero interest in politics.

If you measure a president's success by the words of the people who despise him, you're never going to get an accurate accessment of that president's performance. Maybe you can find a historian that voted for Trump yet thinks he is still one of the worst. I'm guessing the vast majority of the historians we're talking about voted for Biden.

But you see, Rick, neither you nor I know the political leanings of any of those historians. You are assuming they are 96.3% liberal. Maybe they are, maybe not. I'm guessing that someone who follows and studies history for their job is a person who is able to put aside their political bias and judge fairly.

Ever been on a jury? I have a couple times. I've always sworn to be fair and impartial. Your logic would seem to dictate that I cannot set aside my bias, so to extrapolate that, nobody can be fair and impartial. I have a little more faith in humanity. I believe that 142 historians can be much more accurate in how to judge past presidents than you or I.
