The Grift That Keeps on Grifting

Some errors aside (e.g. his depiction of Mueller's report and the Steele Dossier), this is a cutting analysis that should make everyone stop and think. Try to read it while considering how it both challenges and affirms your biases so you can see where you may have blind spots because the author freely criticizes both left and right perspectives.

The Grift That Keeps on Grifting
How three media delusions from the Trump era are still ruining everything

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

WHEN the populace gets their hands (and head) away from SOC. MEDIA via smart phones,THEN some
serious reflection can begin, JMO.....the whole of the country has gone batshitcrazy and is NOT in any position to institute change,ONLY inflaming an ALREADY hot mess. THE NATION needs a do over, the
fourth turning is becoming more likely,as the days pass....EVERYTHING is as it should be,in this
period of time. The LESSONS are being levied at us,in an alarming way. Are we WISE enough to heed
the warnings? (I would not place a bet on that occurring)

Just checked my calendar, this is the 4th of July not April Fool's Day.

From your "unbiased" citation:

I was hardly immune from such modes of thinking. After Hillary Clinton made her infamous remark categorizing “half” of all Trump voters as “deplorable,” I smugly asserted that she was wrong: All of them were.

The Grift That Keeps on Grifting
How three media delusions from the Trump era are still ruining everything

I have some projects that are keeping me very busy so my time is limitted for a while, but I did read this article and was surprised to see much of it aligning with my feelings about the media and how it is failing all of us. While I don't neccessarily agree with the writer's opinion of Trump (since most of it is based on interpretations of words), I do agree that Trump has been the primary fuel used by the press to ignite outrage which has increased their profits. Trump made a lot of verbal mistakes that gave the media ammunition, right or wrong. This writer is a true never-Trumper and once wrote an article for the Daily Beast stating that Hillary Clinton was "the clear conservative choice". That one was a classic, but at least this guy is willing to recognize the lack of journalistic integrity that has plagued most of the news media during the last 4 years.

There's too many things in this article that I'd like to comment on later, but I really want to read it again to see if I missed an important point he's trying to make. Thanks for posting this on SC, I look forward to digging into this more when I have a chance. I'd love to hear Wayne's take on it because of his experience as a journalist.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

To be fair, she didn't say it was an unbiased article, but bias is the point of the article. I see a lot of truth in it, but still disagree with enough of it that' it peaked my interest.

I'm trying to figure out if you read this article and how you feel about the points he's making. I realize you think everything is FUBARED, but throwing your hands up without discusing the points made is an easy way out. Did anything in this opinion piece cause you to think about the many false narratives we've all been fed over the years, or does it not matter if we're being fed disinformation, exagerations, or "fake news"?

The "false narratives" did NOT start with Clinton, Trump, Biden.....WATERGATE was the defining moment of truth for journalism. It has been going down hill since then.(that' not to say that JFK era was any different, just that WATERGATE was the apex of TRUE journalistic practices. Maybe Wayne could
comment on HOW WATERGATE became the 'north star" for reporting/researching facts.

state YOUR REASON FOR ASKING, I will always attempt to correct a proven mistake.( I am not
omnipotent,I am human) ....I just know that The bay of Pigs,The Cuban Missile crisis,Iran Contra, etc.,Nam
war, were NOT REPORTED ACCURATELY.,,,,except now it is called "fake news". The level of intelligence
given to the general populace is NOT what is going on behind the scenes..NOTHING HAS CHANGED and
that was my point.
