This woke movement is becomoing some of my best entertainment lately, but it's stupidity, lack of logic, and truly racist dialogue is just mind blowing to me. SC, I'm hoping to get your input here given your expertise as a scientist. Is this really a problem or is this something that needs to be fixed?
This is a petition by Change.org where they lay out the rules that should be followed in the Geosciences, because we all know how racist those people can be (sarcasm emoji)
I'll just pick out one of my favorite parts but there's a whole lot of other good stuff in this petition:
Black, Indigenous, and Latinx People and other minoritized groups are not safe in the field – because of traditions and systemic discrimination and racism in place in our discipline, country, and world. A glaring example is that Black geoscientists are not safe to engage in fieldwork everywhere that white and other privileged geoscientists are able to. Whereas a white geologist with a rock hammer will be seen as “safe”, a Black geologist may be seen as a threat. Holding “suspicious” objects have been used as a defense to call the police on Black People in recent history and it has led to the death of unarmed Black individuals, purely because of racial profiling, discrimination, and unjustified fear of Black People.
I've been struggling for the words to respnd to this but I have nothing... maybe one of you could give it a go.
Do you remember Wayne's post about "garbage in, garbage out" in the topic about media sources? Change.org is a place for people to beg for "movement" for things, sometimes important, sometimes trivial. For example,
this petition
is asking for $2000/month to every American. It has over 2.7 million signatures. Does that mean it should be implemented as a policy? Hell no, that's ridiculous. Would I even bother paying this time and attention if you hadn't asked about something else as insignificant and pointless? Nope.
There's no quality control at change.org - anyone can start a petition for anything. Let me ask you this: did you stop to ask how many of those might have been started by foreign agents hoping to further divide us by pushing already controversial topics that inflame passions on either side? What's the point of putting up a change.org petition in the first place? Do you really think it'll change policies?
Reading stuff like this may amuse you, but it's also radicalizing you to think that the majority of Americans are on board with this kind of shit. They're not. Stop letting yourself be influenced by garbage.
Back to that petition I cited above really quick: I feel for Stephanie and all the other small business owners out there who are struggling (myself included), but did she think of the consequences of giving $2K to every person? Did she calculate the cost of that kind of program and where that money would come from before she put it out there? Yes, something needs to be done to help workers and small businesses, but handing out $2K checks isn't it. Who are the almost 3 million people who signed it? Are they U.S. citizens who are eligible for work, or is it a bunch of foreign trolls artificially boosting a petition that would harm the economic health of our country?
Anything that amplifies "woke" stories, CRT, race relations, QAnon, police brutality, or other such triggering keywords is highly suspect. The people who talk about those things mostly don't want to solve problems, they want to cause more. Don't play along.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

You're assuming I'm being radicalized by radicals I disagree with, which is miles from the truth. What I am doing is bringing to light the movement that is happening across this country and the world. You may not see it because the sources you trust understand how dangerous this virus is to their messaging and ideology. What the left doesn't seem to understand is that these radical viruses, while in the minority, have the loudest voices and are starting to cause big corporations to bend to their idiocy. They think that if they keep feeding the angry alligator, they won't get eaten themselves.
I haven't seen any evidence yet that the scientific community is trying to appease these Woke Supremacists yet, but they have already gotten to the media that refuses to call them out for fear of getting violent and social media backlash. Coke, Hasbro, the NBA, Facebook, Google, and a growing number of companies are giving credibility to these groups who will eventually tear this country apart if not stopped. The only way we stop them is to shine the light on their lunacy.
I appreciate your response SC, because you are the only left leaner oin this board that will discuss the actual topic and not deflect to Trump or deflect to something else that doesn't relate to the topic. . I just don't think you understand my point much of the time, which is probably because of my bad communication skills which I'm trying very hard to refine.
If this petition, CRT, and other anti-white racist crap is just a tiny portion of the country that has no influence on any part of our lives, including our schools, then I'm sure this will all just fade away. I just don't see that happening because I don't see any pushback from the left wing media and Democrats who would be the most effective voices in cancelling these people who really do need to be cancelled.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
